Other than my sonas, my main OCS are members of The Pack; 4 dog/wolf hybrids and their adopted fox brother. I've been making tickle content for them since middle school. My problem is with the fox.
His name is Creeper/Pearl. As a result a colt kicking his mouth, Creeper broke his lower jaw and hurt his vocal cords at a young age. His jaw healed crooked and scarred, and his vocal cords are damaged temporarily because his parents refused getting medical help as a form of punishment. Later, a wolf/dog family adopts him and he's been living with them ever since. Both as a teen and an adult, Creeper always stutters and hisses uncontrollably, as well as having pronunciation problems with certain words as a result of his injuries.
My question is that what do you guys think about a Lee/ler who has speaking problems such as stuttering and hissing? How should I write him and his dialogue? What kinds of tropes I should avoid while writing him, either as a Lee or ler? Is there anything I should add or remove while portraying Creeper's disability in my writings?
Here are the ways I've always written his dialogue, along with some notes. Please give me feedback about if this is okay or not to do, I'd truly appreciate it!
The letters "s" and "f" are written longer as an emphasis on hissing. There are some cuts in between or at the start of the words as an emphasis on stutter. Whenever there is a continuous tense used on a verb, the letter "g" is cut off. The pronoun "you" becomes "ya", "you're" becomes "ya're".
“Who, me? Offf coursssse!”
Ssso what? It's not like YA can ca-carry both offff them on your own!
“Ya’re w-welcome! Will ya help me set up da bonfire t-tonight?”
“There is laughter c-comin’ fffffffrom our home. Ya don't hear?”
Well, would ya like me to run da do-door down, then?
“Wait, no! I go-got thissss!”
“Oh, thankssssss!”
"Oh, issssss t-that so?"
"We-Well, sss- sucks to be ya, ‘cuz I jussssst have!"
"That's d-different! Fissh don't bully me wit- with their ice magic!”
“Big b-bro! I'm getti-ting harassssssed an-and assssssaulted h-here!"
"Take y-your pointed prooff and sshove it wh-where the ssun doesn't sssshine!"
"Sssor- Sorry?”
"Ssorry. I don't t-think i can sss- s-see wha-what y- ya're doin- ing, bro,”
“You gotta sspeak up for my sssake.”
"Bonfffffire!"
"Come o-on, ya sslowpokesss! Let's get goin’ alre- ready!"
"De- defffffffinitely! I want to sset thingssssss on ffffire now!”
"I under- undersssssstand, I can wait. I'm not as impatient as ya'd like to believe."
"Offf course not! I'm better than that, you kno- know!"
“You fffeel icy, what elsse?”
"I promisse!"
In an addition to that, his brothers sometimes finish off a word for him when he can't pronounce it at the moment. Not all the time, but sometimes - which i also have an example of it. I'd also want to know if that's okay to do or not.
Pearl snorted out another plume of red smoke. “Hah! Now THAT is very correct!” He turned his head back towards him and gave a crooked grin. “Which is da reass- reasss- re-”
“Reason.” Rotten completed for him.
Pearl nodded and skipped that word. “-why I've came to help ya.”
Like, does that look like babying/infantilizing him? They do it because Creeper is a Fire Elemental and has a short temper. When he gets stuck on a word, he gets frustrated and angry super fast, than sets himself on fire. So, they help him out and preventing him from getting angry by completing the word.
The Pack members are all wild animals and there isn't any Elemental power that can fix Creeper's jaw or vocal cords, other than re - breaking his lower jaw in medieval style. But that's be extremely traumatizing and painful for him, therefore his brothers don't try it.
