A "main" partner to whom you are more committed than other people you see

Many people dislike this term as they believe hierarchical relationships are inherently unfair. But for others, it clarifies to potential partners how much time and energy they have for them. 

This term is often used by couples who have opened up to polyamory together. When you share things with one partner, such as home ownership or childrearing, they will often, by necessity, have to take priority over others.

Polyamory and bisexuality are two very separate things. But I recommend this book for the way it explains how society teaches us to ignore truths about ourselves in order to fit in.

In her book, Dr. Julia Shaw explores the ways we as a society erase bisexuality so that we don't realise how prevalent it really is.

It's the same with polyamory. Society is full of examples of successful non-monogamous elements in relationships. We've simply been conditioned to ignore them or dismiss them.

Look around. It's more common than we think.

Polysaturated: No longer having the time or mental space to date new people

Love might be infinite, but time and energy are not. Eventually, everyone reaches a point where they don't have space in their lives for new people. 

Your polysaturation point is up to you to determine. It might also change with your circumstances. Things like jobs and family can alter how much of ourselves we can give to different people.

Ultimately, if the idea of dating someone new isn't energizing you but draining you, you may have reached polysaturation.

How to Find Compersion in Polyamory — Discovering Polyamory

Finding compersion in polyamory can be hard. But if you're willing to do the work, compersion can appear when you least expect it.

Compersion. Some call it the opposite of jealousy, but it's more than that. There is an increasing amount of research around this concept, but, in essence, it's the happiness you feel when you see your partner enjoying themselves with someone else.

But whatever else it is, it's also hard. We are conditioned by society to feel possessive over our partners, and that's a hard thing to overcome. And while it comes relatively easily for some people, it can feel insurmountable for others. They try, and they do their best, but deep down, the idea of seeing their partner with someone else churns up their insecurities. 

So what if you are one of these people? What if you want to explore polyamory but feel compersion is forever beyond your reach? 

Well, don't despair. Compersion may be difficult, but it is never impossible. And, if you do the work and open yourself to the idea, then compersion may appear when you least expect it.

When you begin your polyamory journey, no one will be able to adequately explain how hard it is to balance multiple relationships.

But at the same time, they won't be able to describe how incredibly fulfilling it is, either.

If you work on and manage that balance, it's so utterly worth the effort.

Polyamory isn't easy. But then, neither is any kind of relationship.

But if you're prepared to do the work and build your relationships, polyamory can open the door to such rewarding, emotional fulfilment that you won't even notice the hard work it needs because the rewards are so incredibly overwhelming.
