24 working days until the last day of school. It cannot come too soon.
Some kid stuck a mousetrap in my file cabinet today.
That wasn't even enough to get the principal or assistant principal to come down and check it out. No one ever followed up to allow me to file charges on the kid that was trying to asphyxiate us all by spraying aerosol in a closed classroom over and over again.
I asked the principal to get him out of my class and I was ignored.
My co-teacher is candidate for a PhD and yet she teaches 5th grade.
Talking to her is like talking to a brick wall.
I have taught there for 5 years I know the type of kids that we have and I know how their parents are.
She comes from a prep school where they never get discipline problems because those type of kids aren't allowed to attend.
I like to do my own lessons, I like to do the research myself and usually when I am under pressure to get them done, I come up with my most creative ideas.
She doesn't create anything on her own.
She buys it all in advance from Teachers Pay Teachers.
The previous principal I had for 5 years drilled into our heads that Teachers Pay Teachers was for stupid and lazy people. We were absolutely forbidden from ever using lessons from there.
So I learned to make my own which I was very good at. But I haven't been able to use any of my lessons this year because I am having to be in lockstep with the other teacher and she only uses TPT.
I have been condescended to until I am condescended into submission.
Everything I have suggested has been ignored.
Even though most of what I have suggested is what the curriculum director has asked for.
Somehow I ended up with an extra free period. And instead of actually giving me time to do anything I was told I needed to "go learn how to be a teacher from her." What I saw was her giving High School level notes to barely literate 4th graders some of which did not even know English. No visuals, no photos, no videos, no music, no movement, just 45 minutes of copying notes.
This goes against every single professional development I have ever had in the last 8 years.
But she is candidate for a PhD and the best friend of the principal so nothing is done.
Add to this teaching the covid generation and I honestly think I would probably have better luck teaching felons in prison. I definitely would have felt safer.
Add to this Greg Abbott cracking down on what we can and cannot teach. As it is now they are telling us absolutely do not teach anything extra other than what we are telling you to teach. If it says Identify Martin Luther King's accomplishments then don't go into him being assassinated just talk about what he did. This constrains me even more but I am hoping that if I am alone and unobserved in my room with the door shut I can impart any extra knowledge I feel like I need to without being harassed.
However who knows how long that is going to last. I do know I have already been threatened with being thrown in jail if I teach something that has been pulled out of the curriculum.
So at some point I am going in for my final teaching evaluation of the year.
And I don't know what I'm going to do. If I were to share what my true feelings are I would probably be fired. But at the same time I don't know how much longer I can swallow my ego and let them run right over me for the sake of having a job.
If I wasn't so old and broke down I would tell them to all go f themselves and just leave. But I can't do that because there are very few jobs that I can do at this point in my life and living where I am I'm even more limited. But the Mousetrap thing.... that did not make me happy at all.
This year has it been even worse than covid and I didn't think anything could be worse than that.
And I got in trouble because my lesson plans did not match my co-teachers and I will admit I did miss one of the standards was which was the wrong number. But little nitpicky things like I had put all day long there was going to be a STAAR test next Tuesday and in each of the seven or eight blocks we have to fill out I simply put STAAR test because if we leave one of them blank we get in trouble. Well she only put STAAR test in four of her blanks and in the others she put N/A.
So I got in trouble because I did not put N/A in the same length she did. I really wanted to be extra and say if she misspelled a word am I going to have to go back and misspell the same word so that will match?
❛ ridiculous. ❜ boy softly mutters. he will not exert nor make a fool of himself running after a ball like his simple cousin nor sisters. even if it does look fun.
I feel very sorry for myself, for letting you into my life and for disappointing me with disrespect and falseness
Why Veronica Mars Fans Feel Betrayed
Ok, so I’ve seen more people coming out of the woodwork today saying that they don’t understand why some fans are abandoning the show now (I guess they feel more free now to voice their opinion now that some of the more vocal angry fans have taken a break from social media). The people who want to see future seasons of Veronica Mars have said that they don’t think they were watching the same show as the other fans, that they don’t understand the anger, that they agree with Rob Thomas’s decision to kill Logan, etc. And good God does it piss me off because I feel like they’re not trying to understand why these fans are so angry and that this is not a typical situation of a showrunner making a decision that fans don’t like or support.
I wrote a longer post about why you might want to take the time to understand where these fans were coming from rather than dismissing them (and you can read that if you want), but I wanted to sum up why fans feel so betrayed. I liked Logan and I liked LoVe, but I was not a diehard fan of either. However I’m beyond pissed off because I feel that Rob Thomas (and less so, but still definitely guilty, Kristin Bell) spat in the fans faces, were narcissistic, and totally self absorbed.
Why do I feel this way? Because Veronica Mars was not like most TV shows. It was very different in that it didn’t run for 4 seasons consecutively like most shows. It was cancelled and because of fans (who literally funded the movie and got it recognized by the wider public because of their passion, commitment, and love of the show) got a second chance. Where the movie ended off would have been good enough for most fans, but Rob Thomas decided to make a 4th season.
When he funded the movie through Kickstarter, he broke the standard mold of shows belonging to creators and fans equally (as one can not live without the other and occasionally creators/writers do see the big picture and what’s best for the audience before they themselves can) and gave away most of his ownership of the show to the fans. Without their support and encouragement for the movie, do you honestly believe that Hulu would have seriously considered giving him the greenlight to make a fourth season? I highly, highly doubt it. They did it because they knew that fans had shown they’d put their money where their mouths were and subscribe to Hulu, as well as promote the new season so they’d get free publicity.
Whether you liked Logan or LoVe or not it would be foolish to assume the show would have gotten this far without those diehard shippers or people who adored Logan’s character. And Rob Thomas KNEW this! If you read any of his interviews he said it wasn’t necessary to kill Logan, but he wasn’t interested in writing the show with Veronica going home to him every night. But he so easily could have written future seasons so that Logan was off on further military missions and not part of the season, or if he really wanted Veronica torn up have him MIA and presumed dead as a prisoner of war (but found at some point). Or he could have even killed off Logan in a way that made his death nobel, meaningful, and something that would have reverberated throughout any future seasons, rather than a tacked on death in the last 10 minutes that didn’t even show the characters processing his death.
But the death was for shock value and Rob even said it was designed to cause as much pain as possible. I honestly can’t say that I understand (it’s totally beyond me) why on God’s Green Earth he thought it would be a good idea to knowingly cause unnecessary pain to a fandom that had shown him nothing but support and love that almost no other show runner in history has gotten to experience. The only thing that I can come up with is that he wasn’t interested in writing their relationship anymore and was narcissistic enough to think he could get away with killing Logan and having the fanbase forgive him.
Whether you’re a fan of LoVe and/or Logan or not, if you’ve been with the show since the beginning (or for a while) and paid any attention to social media, you should have a clear idea that at least 50% of the fans are diehard fans of those aspects of the show. So I legitimately want to know what is so confusing to you now as to why fans feel betrayed and don’t want to see future seasons? They put their money, time, and passion into a show in a way that no other show in history has been supported only to have the creator make a decision that he knew would hurt and alienate them because he wanted to write a different show than what at least half (and I would argue more) of the fans wanted. People supported the show monetarily and enthusiastically because it brought them joy over the last 15 years, not because they wanted to feel anger, grief, and betrayal. We trusted that Rob would honor the legacy of the show by supporting what the fans loved about it (and what we mistakenly thought he loved about it), not what would be easier or more desirable for him to write personally.
Like I said I’m not a diehard fan of LoVe or Logan, despite really liking them, but I cannot and will not watch more of a show whose creator showed such disregard and disrespect to fans that made it possible for him to even make a season 4 to begin with. It’s a precedent that I want to make sure is never followed by another showrunner thinking that they have the luxury whatever they want to see in spite of what the fans want to see.
