“This gold double-bladed Minoan axe from around 1500 BC was found in the Arkalochori Cave on the island of Crete - Greece.

This axe is made of gold and has a unique writing system on it called Linear A. No one has been able to fully figure out what it means yet. Some experts believe that these signs could be a prayer to the goddess Demeter.

Along the same lines as leaving flowers or candles in a special place, people used to leave these axes in the cave as gifts for the gods.

Add “fantasy weapon design” to the list of things Zen has dabbled in doing. xD 

So this is just a quick concept thing I threw together for @ask-jolly-roger mod and his idea for a Christmas/Viking influence battle axe for a project he’s got going on. Got some holly and candy cane motif in here, and the engraved bells, and ribbons. I used to fool around with doing like Final Fantasy sorts of weapon design for giggles when I was a teenager. I guess this just struck my fancy, as I had to see how I could blend these two influences together into a design.

The Labrys, or double-headed axe was a significant religious symbol in Minoan religion, (similar to the crucifix of modern Christianity. It has been found carved into rocks and walls in the Palace of Knossos, where the Minotaur and Labyrinth myth originates. The symbol was associated solely with female deities, never male, which may be why the image was adopted by the 1970's Queer Community as a Sapphic Symbol.

I feel like I don’t see labrys used as a lesbian pride symbol all that much anymore. Why is that?
