Minoan Sphinxes!
The oldest surviving paved road of Europe is located in Crete, Greece. It is a 50 km (31 miles) long road constructed by the Minoans more than 3,500 years ago. It connects Knossós with Górtyna.
The vibrant fresco "The Ladies in Blue", dating from approximately 1525 to 1450 BC, offers a fascinating glimpse into court fashion and the artistic refinement of Minoan civilisation.
(English / Español / Italiano)
Discovered in fragments in the Palace of Knossos, Crete, the scene depicts three elegantly dressed women engaged in conversation.
The most striking feature is the intense blue pigment, obtained from imported Egyptian silica: an expensive material that emphasises their high social status.
This masterpiece of Aegean Bronze Age art, now restored and preserved at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, remains a powerful testament to the extraordinary skill of the Minoans in capturing grace, colour and social ritual.

Palace at Knossos, Crete
The Toreador Fresco, Knossos Palace, Crete, c.1500 BC
Trouble in Knossos.
Knossos, before getting invaded, was often dreaming (or having nightmares) of a giant octopus attacking her, resulting to her, an artist, often making art out of it.
Her palen face was struck with horror, once she came face to face with the nightmare that had been haunting her for decades, before closing her eyes in bliss.
