So I've recently come across this really cool post by @isosceles-is-never-here and GOT ABSALUTLY HOOKED ON THE IDEA.
I think that in my version, Danny is a hero, which travels down to the underworld to visit the shade of an old friend (Haven't decided who yet).
The only reason he is able to get inside the underworld in the first place is because of his half ghost and shade king status. Unfortunately, Hades does not appreciate him being in the underworld, so he has to fight his way down.
At first he uses his ghost form to try and sneak around but gets recognized very fast.
Every time he gets all the way down, he has only a few hours before he gets sent back to the surface.
Zagreus can encounter him when he stops to rest, in a room packed full of shades. He gives Zag the option to trade some boons with him, and as the relationship gets more hearts, he eventually appears in the lounge from time to time to hang out before he is returned back to the surface.
Zagreus escape attempts are useful to him since they distract Hades from his own break-in attempts, so if they find themselves in the same battle room, Danny will do his best to help him:)

character design notes:
-Danny has half a coin, cause the dead needed a coin to pay for passage into the afterlife. he's half dead so he gets half a coin
-Blue icy hands like the game's protogenos, Zagreus' fiery feet
-armor inherited from Pariah Dark
-gold/bronze armor for Danny for that good opposite color palette

"You can't just hurl Danny at every fandom you find interes-" Fucking watch me
Twin is taking ass and kicking names in Hades. Their suffering fuels me, so have a 'inaccurate greek lore' -afied Phantom. Both concept and design is heavily based off of @isosceles-is-never-here and @mits-mits 's posts (I forgor pants). Just throwing my own two cents in.
SO, in THIS plagiarized version:
Phantasmos is a hero who somehow manages to shimmy on down to the Underworld every other week or so. He doesn't have any important reason for going down there, he just lacks self preservation.
(Originally I was just gonna switch the name 'Phantom' out with the heavily translated sorta-greek version, but ''Phantasma' would function as a girls name so I had to tack on an S back there. And 'Phantasmas' makes me think of Santa Claus for some reason, so I changed it again.)
He did defeat Pariah Dark, gaining the Gods favor, but it didn't make him royalty since Pariah wasn't a king either. He was just some guy hellbent on usurping Hades for whatever reason.
And I guess he got all the way down to Tartarus at some point. Or I can just borrow a Phandom headcanon and say Clockwork is a fragment of Chronos. Gaping plotholes aside, Danny is now the adopted son of Chronos (and also the favorite despite only calling him peepaw) for comedic purposes. He is the little brother Hades never wanted.
In both games the players first interaction with him can be triggered in two ways. Either you find him or he finds you. And from then on out it's basically a game of 'Where's Waldo?'. Keep an eye out for a suspicious looking shade and he'll either gift you something useful or offer to assist you in your next battle. He can also sometimes be seen cheering you on at the Elysium stadium in the first game and is just as supportive in the second (he's just peeved he lost his favorite child privileges).
(The Twin Hivemind is not to be underestimated, i'm in another goddamn fandom again. How in the heck am I supposed to hyperfixate on 12 fandoms at the same time!???)
Happy to finally show my piece for the @ecto-implosion!
I was playing Hades a lot when I signed up which left me itching to read a crossover between these guys, and this was the result on my end ^.^
My partner for the event was @half-deadmagicperson and she did an amazing job crafting a story with these characters! The story is up on AO3 and you can read it here: How Danny Broke His Favorite Star Projector. It's an incredible feeling to read something inspired by your art, and more so in this case since Magic put everything I asked for and much more in it! 💚
I'm so happy to have decided to join in another DP event, a big shout-out to everyone who also participated and a huge thank you to the mods for hosting!
Blame @mits-mits & @garbagewith-a-cherryontop for being inspired by my original dpxhades concept art, cause their works inspired me to do this
This is for the concept that Danny is trying to find his way from the surface down into the underworld (the opposite of Zagreus) for a some reasons.
He can be discovered amongst other shades in the house, chambers, or the colosseum, as he is trying (and failing) to disguise himself as a usual shade. Which if discovered, he will gift or assist Zag.
But the relevant bit is that Hades doesn’t want Danny anywhere in the underworld, probably for many reasons, and will have him “escorted out” by Than, or Charon, or even Zag in the late game. Danny knows this, but shows up anyways. So this is just a moment of Danny getting caught by Hades, and then shooed away.
[ im mixing ideas from me, @mits-mits & @garbagewith-a-cherryontop ]
This started off more doodle and evolved a bit.. definitely was inspired by mits-mits’ drawing of “WTF is that weird ass shade” which I love and cherish and can’t stop laughing at. Many thanks to them
I did want to try to incorporate his hair with the hood, I think its fun, but not sure if I'll stick with it yet.
Mits-mits & Garbagewith-a-cherryontop, count ur days 🫵
Cause I was hyper fixated on Stranger Things and Silksong and now I’m totally sidetracked on dpxhades, cause of y’all’s great arts
I've been playing Hades, and it’s got me thinking about if Danny Phantom was in the game
This is rough concept art, trying to best translate Danny into the Hades world & art style. I plan to refine these into finished pieces that look like they r from the first game! (if the art gods r kind to me T_T)
I'd love to hear any ideas on how Danny would be a part of the game!
Would he have his own boon set? or his own chamber with 3 options for the player to pick from? I also like the idea of him randomly showing up like Thanatos to help kill enemies for a possible reward. And the idea of him showing up in the lounge sporadically after you get enough hearts with him! or in the halls being surrounded by shades!
He's definitely gotten mistaken for Zagreus with his spikey black hair, I could definitely see Alecto attacking him because of it rip
My Designs Explained:
I'm taking a page out of the hot glowing feet of the Hades bloodline book and giving Danny frozen glowing hands representing his ice powers
I snatched Pariah Dark’s cloak and skull details (just like Danny snatching Pariah's Ghost King status), which really translates well into Hades fashion. Might add Pariah's belt buckle? I know a lot of people do fresh takes for Danny's Ghost king forms, but this works so well translating it into the art style & setting.
Danny is the King of Shades:
Danny’s ghost form is designed after the Shades (who r the ghosts of Hades!) I'm really leaning into Shade vibes with the built in robe and hood, with his face in shadow and cartoony features. but he is the King and only half Shade, so he gets more accessories and has a more distinct form.
Danny is a God/Immortal (i.e. human form):
Keeping a lot of design elements from his Shade form, but I'm gonna invert the colors & metals. I want him to be swarmed by little shades! Any ideas on what he should be holding? Probably will keep the ice crystal..

Danny scrambles down the stairs into the green swirls of the Ghost Zone. He can’t lose another one! There’s got to be an explanation. The familiar sight of an old Clock Tower appears. The door bursts open from the force of the frantic teen. He looks around trying to find the elusive ghost. A small chuckle from behind Danny scares the shit out of him. He whips around to see the calm, collected Time Ghost, currently in the form of a young adult.
“Hello, Daniel, back so soon?” Clockwork smiled and ushered his panicking pupil to take a seat. Danny sat down and began full-speed rambling about meeting Zagreus, and taking him to the surface, and then watching his new friend dissolve into nothingness. Clockwork nodded in understanding.
“So what should I do? Did he die?” Danny looked wide-eyed at his mentor, awaiting a response.
“It is true that the Son of Hades is tied to the Underworld, and cannot survive on the surface for very long,” Danny’s expression sank into guilt.
“However,” the Master of Time continued, “He is fine. He is back in the House of Hades.”
The relief from Danny was palpable. Clockwork chuckled before leading his pupil to the door.
“You might even want to visit him soon.”
Danny waved good-bye to his mentor before heading back to his home. Once he stepped into the lab, he made a bee-line to the attic. If Zagreus can’t see the stars, Danny is going to bring the stars to him, and he knew exactly how he was going to do it.
~~~~~~~
In the dark halls of the House of Hades, a young price is reborn from the…puddles of his death.
“I forgot how much that hurts,” Zagreus stated, mostly to himself. He rubbed his temples, waiting for the headache to fade. He sighed and walked up the steps towards his room. He needed to tell Danny he was alright, but first, he needed a nap.
Before he could get to his chambers, he was greeted with the sight of a familiar, cold gaze.
“Well, well, well if it isn't the mighty Zagreus. What got you this time?”
“Not that it's any of your business, Meg, but I was visiting a friend.”
“Did this ‘friend’ happen to kill you?”
“Nope. Which is surprising, since I think most friends have at least once.”
The Fury made a sort of laugh before walking towards the Lounge.
“Well, enjoy your beauty sleep, Zagreus.”
The prince mumbled a goodbye before heading to bed.
~~~~~~
As it turns out, navigating through the Underworld was awful. Danny decided to wander aimlessly and hope he can find someone to give him directions. He made several turns and phased through a couple of walls, before arriving at a river. He noticed a tall person with a large hat. Maybe they could help him? Danny floated closer to the flowing waters of the River Stix.
“Uh, Hello? I was wondering if you could help me find my friend? Uh, his name is Zagreus,” Danny asked, sheepishly. The figure turned around, their head was a black skull. Purple smoke escaped their lips. They weren’t the first skeletal figure Danny had seen, but there was something more eerie about this one.
“Ughhhhdhnnnnnnnnn” a ghastly sigh escaped from the boatman. Danny winced in fear before a feminine laugh erupted from behind him.
“Of all the people you could’ve picked for directions, you sure picked the least conversable,” Danny turned around to see a woman. She wore a soft smile, and kind eyes, much like a mother would. Her dull blonde hair was swept up into a fancy braid to compliment her crown. The red and orange laurel on her head matched the one Danny had seen on Zagreus. Danny realized he had been staring too long and awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck.
“You’re looking for Zagreus, I presume?” she asked. Danny nodded. She smiled and continued, “I’ll take you to him.”
“Er, thank you! Ms—?”
“Persephone.”
“Oh, uh, sorry, Your Highness, er, wait, is that the right term?”
Persephone chuckled as they walked. Danny didn’t like the awkward silence, so he began to talk.
“So, uh, who was that with the hat?”
“Oh, that was Charon, he’s the boatman for the River Stix. He’s pretty nice.”
“Oh. cool!” Persephone smiled.
“Anyways, you’re going to make a left here, and it's the entrance on the right.”
“Thank you so much for your help!”
“Of course! It’s nice to see Zagreus making new friends.”
Danny watched Persephone walk away, and began walking towards Zagreus’s chambers. He approached the entrance and knocked on the door.
“Yes?” a voice spoke from inside the room.
“Hi! I’m here to speak to Zagreus?”
“Did my father send you?”
“Uh, no? But your mom gave me directions!”
Danny heard a shuffling from behind the door. Footsteps came closer until the entrance was opened. Zagreus popped out and looked down to see Danny. The Ghost Boy grinned and held up a strange black box.
“I brought you something!” Zagreus invited him in. Danny looked around the room. It was like the size of his living room! He scanned the walls, looking for an outlet.
“I figured, since you couldn’t go see the stars, I could bring the stars to you!” Danny held up the box. It was an old star projector Jazz got him for his 30th birthday. It’s been sitting in his attic since Tucker snagged an immersive holographic one.
Zagreus raised an eyebrow at the ‘young’ man, as Danny continued looking for an outlet.
“Do you have anywhere I could plug this in?”
“Um, what?”
“Like to give it power? Electricity?”
“I don’t have a place to plug things in, but I have something that might work!”
The prince pulled a shield off of his back, which Danny swore wasn’t there earlier. It had a golden face surrounded by wings. Danny took a moment to appreciate the shiny object before Zagreus straight up chucked it at the projector on the table.
The shield floated in the air and started spinning beams of lightning. It slashed the projector with electric shocks, and for a brief second, the stars started glowing. It was a great moment until the box started shaking rapidly.
KABOOM!
Danny and Zagreus coughed the smoke out of their lungs. That didn’t go as planned. A small laughter formed on Danny’s lips, until he descended into hysterics. Zagreus gave him a look before joining him. The two boys’ laughter echoed through the halls.
~~~~~
Hades sighed as he watched the smoke poured out into the throne room. Great, there's two of them now. Nyx gave a slight laugh. Persephone shot the king a sweet smile. She’s right, it’s good that Zagreus made a new friend. He hasn’t heard his son laugh like that in a long time.
~~~~~
Despite the amount of enjoyment the Prince and his new companion were having, it was time for the Ghost Boy to depart, for his earthly form still needs rest.
“Wait? Who was just talking?” Danny asked, looking around the room. They had just finished cleaning up the scraps from the old projector.
“That’s just an Old Man who finds it very fun to narrate my life. He comes and goes as he pleases, and usually shows up when something important is happening,” Zagreus explains, vaguely gesturing at the ceiling.
“He sounds…kind of familiar, but maybe that’s because all old people sound the same.”
Zagreus snorted.
“Well, if what he said was true, your ‘earthly form’ needs rest.”
“Ah, yeah, it is getting late. I should head back.”
“I hope to see you again some time?”
“Yep! We should definitely hang out more often!”
Zagreus waved his friend goodbye before getting ready to sleep himself. He glanced over at the pile of projector pieces. Guilt sank into his stomach. Danny had given him a gift, and he ruined it. He decided that his next goal, in the morning, should be to fix that.
~~~~~~
Danny dragged himself through the portal. That old man wasn’t lying. He was exhausted. He let the bright rings of his transformation wash over him and slowly hiked up the stairs. While brushing his teeth, he thought about the box. Since they don’t have power ‘down there’ he should try to either make an ecto-powered projector, or one that could handle the currant of Zeus aspect. He was too tired for the specifics, but tomorrow he’ll get to work.
Danny awkwardly held his hand out to his opponent, half expecting him to not take it. The Greek lowered his weapon and grasped Danny’s arm in greeting.
“Zagreus, Son of Hades and Persephone, Prince of the Underworld.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Your Highness, and sorry about this whole mess.”
“You said your mentor sent you. Who exactly is that?”
“Oh right! In the Infinite Realms we call him Clockwork. He’s the Keeper of Time. He said that you would know him as Chronos, but he’s neither evil, nor child-consuming. He’s more like an aspect of him that’s just purely Time. I don’t really understand it.”
The two continued talking for a while until Danny casually mentioned his home on Earth, or the surface as Zagreus knew it.
“So wait, do you know what a bird looks like, then?” Zagreus asked, rather enthusiastically. Danny raised a brow.
“Um…yeah? Do you, like, not get birds down here?”
“No, only spirits. Is it true that they fly?”
“Yeah, they fly all over the place. They’re pretty common on the ‘surface’.”
Zagreus looked at the boy awestruck before asking more questions. Danny told him about squirrels, turtles, and various other creatures. Zagreus listened intently, occasionally offering input from his brief time on the surface.
“But my favorite thing about the surface is the stars!” Danny mentioned after wrapping up his conversation about flamingos. Zagreus lit up.
“I always loved the stars! I would admire them every time I visited my mother! Although, it sounds like it has been quite a while since I’ve seen them.”
“I should totally take you to see them! In fact,” Danny looks at a bracelet on his wrist, “They should be out by now!”
Zagreus glanced down to think. A night out, although short, would be fun. He looked back up at Danny and smiled. Time to see the surface again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Danny was ecstatic when the prince agreed to go with him. To make things easier on themselves, they decided to take the route through the Ghost Zone. Zagreus was a bit startled by the lack of gravity at first, but eventually got the hang of it. Danny led his new friend through as the ancient prince took in the sights of the floating islands and staircases. Occasionally, Danny would point out important spots, like the Far Frozen or Dora’s Kingdom.
“Oh and over here is Pandora’s domain! I don’t know if you met her at all, but she’s nice.” Danny said, pointing over to a large Greek-like structure. It was probably the most normal sight for Zagreus, compared to the rest of the Zone.
Finally, the duo reach a ripple in the green atmosphere. Danny stopped in front of it to explain some things to Zagreus before they went in.
“Here we are, the Portal. Now, before we go through, I should probably prepare you for what’s on the other side. The ‘Surface’ has changed a lot since you’ve been there. Heck, it’s changed a lot since I was alive! Humans have made lots of advancements and machines throughout the ages. There’s gonna be some things that might look strange and different to you.”
Zagreus nodded in acknowledgement, and the two walked through the ripple.
After stepping through, a dismal sight greeted Zagreus. The room was dark, much like his home, but this was more dingy. Sheets of cloth coated in dust covered many objects in the room. Boxes littered the room, but they were not a material the prince was familiar with. Danny sighed and dusted off one of the boxes.
“Welcome to Fentonworks, or what’s left of it. The building is owned by my nephew. My, uh, my sister, Jazz, after we found out I couldn’t age set it up so that I could have a place to hide out in. Plus, someone needed to watch the portal.” Danny awkwardly scratched behind his neck before signaling to go upstairs.
The upstairs looked in a lot better shape than the dungeon they crawled out of. There was a small table to eat at, but no furnace. Danny noticed his confusion and showed him the ‘stove’ and ‘microwave.’ Zagreus took in the different sights of the house. Tiny portraits littered the shelves and walls. All of the ceilings had dim, weirdly shaped stars glowing on them. Another staircase and two ladders later, and they finally made it to their destination.
The stars were absolutely beautiful. An infinite expanse of glowing, white dots stretched down into the horizon. A gentle breeze brushed against Zagreus’s face as he took in the sight of the town. The buildings were taller than most houses he’s seen, but they were in shambles. He stood up from the cold metal of what Danny called ‘The Ops Center’ to get a better look at the town. Other than the moon and stars, there was no source of light. The structures were cracked, and plants claimed them as their own. Zagreus scanned the area for any signs of life. Surely there must be someone out here right? There’s no way Danny would be living in a town alone? Danny noticed the concern on Zagreus’s face.
“The town used to be more lively when I was growing up. It wasn’t small, but it wasn’t huge either. Things were pretty great, going to the mall, getting some Nasty Burger, or even just sitting around playing DOOMED,” he started to explain, “After I died, the portal in my basement opened up which led to frequent visitors. They liked to stir up trouble with the living, so I usually had to stop them. Eventually, things became more peaceful, but the portal being open left some side effects on Amity. The ectoplasm from the portal contaminated the environment. People who lived here regularly didn’t notice a thing, but when relatives came to visit, they’d often get sick. The Guys in White, a government ghost hunting organization, decided to seal off the town from the rest of society. Nobody new ever came, but people were allowed to leave. I watched as the town slowly became smaller over time. After I got my job with Clockwork, I started guiding the town’s souls into the afterlife. I helped strangers, my friends’ grandparents, or a neighbor down the street. None of the deaths really affected me until they got closer to home. First, it was my father, then my mother, then Tucker, then Sam, then…Valerie, and…and…Jazz. They were all gone.”
Tears glinted in Danny’s eyes as the once cheerful expression was replaced with a far more sober one. Zagreus didn’t really know what to do about that, so he just patted the boy’s shoulder. Danny wiped his face and smiled. It was at this point Zagreus noticed that despite how young Danny appeared, his expression was filled with age. Danny rubbed the back of his neck.
“I’m sorry for ruining the mood. I guess I just haven’t had someone to talk to in a while.”
“That is alright…I don’t really have many friends either. Most of the time I’m just in my father’s palace or trying to break out,” Zagreus let out a snicker, “but I don’t really spend much time with the people down there.”
Danny nodded before replying, “Well, if you get bored doing whatever the Prince of the Underworld does, you’re more than welcome to come visit. I’ll even clean the house!”
“I may take you up on that offer,” Zagreus smiled, until he felt a wave of exhaustion come over him. Danny’s voice started to fade into the background.
“It’ll be nice to have a friend over for company!”
Zagreus let out a weak smile before the pain consumed him and Death reclaimed his form.
Danny watched his new friend dissolve into a puddle, much like one of his clones would, and started to panic. His friend just died??? Was this normal? He should see Clockwork. Can Greek gods even die? Is Zagreus considered a god? He really needs to go find Clockwork.
