but then we go there, and meet aliens, and we look up

and up some more to see their eye-analogues or whatever they might have

and they are huge, and they are strong, and they’re extremely worried about how relatively fragile we seem to be, in comparsion; but for those of us that are effectively posthuman, heavily cyborg-ed up or whatnot, we’re not in a majority of innate physical fitness compared to other aliens, as imagined

Humans are weird- aesthetics.

I’m not just talking clothes, what about plate design?

“Human Steve, why are you arranging that Basil leaf at a precise 90 degree angle? Does it affect the taste of the dish?” He was already aware the sense of taste was very important to humans.

“Nah, just looks nicer. I’ve been watching too much food network.”

What about flowers? Some people hate the look of some plants. What about when they go to a new planet, they see these flowers that look a lot like roses, and start fawning over them. The aliens already know that humans use flowers as symbols of good will, so maybe one of them gives them some flowers, but no. Because those are weeds, or just flowers that look really horrible together. And aliens never knew how opinionated humans are.

Or tastes just not going together well, you like white wine, and you like steak right? But god forbid you pair them together, especially in front of rich people. Aliens would be so confused.

Earth may be space Australia, but humans are those pre-madonna celebrities that have to have exactly 15 RED M&MS NEXT TO A SPRING WATER BOTTLE COOLED TO PRECISELY 5 DEGREES CELSIUS.

So, fairies are magical, elderly, and archaic.

Aliens are way ahead of us in technology, logical, and futuristic.

Right?

But what about the other way around?

Fairies that don’t survive from charms and spells, but advanced cloaking. They gave up long ago on magic, and the ancient tales about them flying were when they first discovered jet propulsion. Fairies with laser guns and bombs, that scoff at the mention of magic. Fairy teenagers tapping away at their holographic phones. Fairy programmers who hack into governments to predict if any humans are catching on.

Aliens that you really shouldn’t tell your name. Aliens who curse you if you offend them, stewing foreign herbs in bronze pots, chanting an unknown dialect. Aliens that fly around you, almost human, shimmering with dust and glamour. If they offer you food, politely decline, or you will be taken to their planet. They abduct human children to their planet, and leave an odd creature with far too many arms in its place. Aliens that hiss at iron and running water, and do not go near homes with horseshoes on their doors.

I saw a “humans are weird” post about muscle memory, and thought about how much we rely on it. Take playing the piano for example, when I was learning I was taught to arch my hands, not to slouch, etc. But what if you had to take all of that into account consciously? 

I think, for a human, the process of doing something familiar becomes second nature. So for someone experienced, playing a familiar song, their process might be something like this: 

 Find notes> play. And all of the other things they’ve learnt for years are still in their head, just happening without thinking. 

So if an alien didn’t have a mind like that, their process might be like: Find notes> arch fingers> mentally prepare for key change> keep straight posture> etc. Now humans do all of what the alien would be doing, they’d just be doing it without thinking. It would be like playing a song for the first time, even if they’ve played it dozens of times. So how would this affect an aliens perspective on a human?

(I don’t remember anything about playing a piano so I’m gonna write about something else) 

The humans seemed quite excited to be back on Earth after many cycles traveling the galaxy. Tarvan watched as they ran about their homeworld with ease. After a while, human-rosy grabbed a strange object from a rack of them.

“Hey Tarvan, have you ever seen a bike?” she called, swinging one leg over the strange thing. 

“What is this ‘bike’ thing for, human-rosy?” the thing appeared to be easy to move in Earth gravity with its ‘wheel’ which humans were so fond of.

“watch” Human-Rosy called sitting in what appeared to be a seat on the thing and putting her feet on small platforms attached to smaller wheels in the middle of the bike. Slowly Human-Rosy began pushing the platforms and the ‘bike’ began to move.

“How do you remember how to do that so well after so long in space?” Tarvan was often confused by xis human companions, but xe often forget how to do things on xis homeworld after only a few cycles in space, it had been five Earth years since the humans had been back.

“its called muscle memory, I don’t consciously remember how to ride it, but my legs know what to do”

That was impossible, the humans were not like the strange Mirrorites, with brain function in every joint, they only had one, needlessly complex and strange, brain.
