Happy, long, and well deserved retirement, Dunaden. Probably one of the best stayers there have been, and the first ever to win the Melbourne Cup and the Hong Kong Vase in the same year (2011), followed by a win in the 2012 Caulfield Cup. All in all, he won 10 of his 46 starts, finished second 11 times, and third 8 times, and earned £5,271,584 on the track.
Foaled in 2006 in France, sired by Nicobar, from a rare Byerley Turk sireline, out of La Marlia.
"In winning the Melbourne Cup, Dunaden gave me the most exciting day's racing I have ever had. He has been a dream horse to own. He has taken us all over the world from Europe to Dubai, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia and every time he tries his heart out and runs his race. He owes none of us anything." said owner Sheikh Fahad after the decision was taken to retire the great stayer after a training setback. 14 July 2014. Read more here.
