Similarities:

My brother is a huge dork and I love him (we occasionally argue. Okay we argue way less than Sokka and Katara).

Have been accused of being motherly

I keep getting Water Tribe on every single "What Avatar Nation/Element/Bending Style Are You" quiz, even though I am consciously trying to get Air Nomads. So clearly I am a water tribe girl who needs me an airbender partner.

Differences:

Not a great healer. "I brought you tea...you're not better now???"

Not so assertive.

Currently no hair loopies but this will change I swear it.

I AM of the Edain

I think Fingolfin's p. cool

I think Hurin is cooler

Differences:

Probably wouldn't do very well in a battle type situation

Leadership terrifies me

Three things I have in common with Andreth:

Slightly obsessive fascination with all the tiny ins and outs of First Age Edain history.

Would totally talk to elves about deep metaphysical questions (at least, the ones which didn't suddenly remember an appointment and back away nervously when the subject came up).

Will probably die single \o/

Three things I don't have in common with Andreth:

She's indisputably smarter than me

I'm generally much more hopeful about the world and my future

Because I don't personally know any elves running around being perfect and immortal with every unfair advantage, and also none of them have ditched me without properly talking about it with me. That...has never happened to me. If it had then maybe I'd be rolling my eyes at Sindarin definitions of "hope" as well.

May I please ask if you think Beren One-Hand ought to be depicted as an Everyman or as more of a classic Fantasy Adventurer-type? (given that he does some pretty superhuman stuff … despite the fact that he's quite possibly the LEAST superhuman character in the entire cast of 'Beren and Luthien').

In my opinion? Neither.

I think Beren's "superhuman" feats are all driven by desperation. The classic Fantasy Adventurer is motivated by things like glory and honour and the thrill of the chase. Beren is motivated by the fact he is clinging onto everything he has left in the world with an increasingly shaky grip, and if he lets go, he and everything he loves is lost - again. That...is not really something Everyman can relate to.

I think Beren is way too screwed up to be either of them.
