I recently shared one of the city outlines I made for my homebrew world, Eddara, so I thought I’d share the actual world outline too!
Once again I’m using Ryuutama has a guide for a starting point… I’m hoping to use this setting for writing stories in, but I’m also hoping to actually run some TTRPGs in it some day too! I’m taking the approach now like I’m preparing for a campaign more than a novel, and to be honest I think it’s helping me out to approach it that way (a wild order of operations for me, as someone who’s been writing stories since age 9 haha)
This will very much be updated and changed, but I hope you enjoy checking it out for now! Maybe it can help give another writer a needed boost? 💕✨
World Name:
Eddara
Shape of the World:
A perfect sphere, with a single continent called Aedra on it. It has three suns and three moons.
World History:
The stellar entities worshiped as the gods of the world are known as the Stellar Ascendants. They first descended from their true homes in the stars hundreds of years ago fleeing their enemy known as the Cosmic Void. They taught the folk of Eddara how to shape the magic of the natural world and their own willpower. They still walk among the people of Eddara, and even rule in some areas.
These stellar beings all have draconic and cosmic- or natural world-type aesthetic qualities (glowing eyes or skin, wings, horns, antlers, branches, fur or bark instead of skin or scales, etc.). It’s quite common for normal mortals to bear similar features as the folk of Eddara are said to be the children of the Ascendants. However, various cultures may believe such features to be a sign of either good or ill fortune….
Representative Countries:
The Kingdom of Autumnfell was founded by the Autumnfell family when the goddess of the Golden Wood arrived from beyond the stars and first taught them magic. The Autumnfell family in turn taught more folk, and soon folks flooded to that area to learn the magic of the gods.
The Republic of H’Ryn is a land in the central region of the continent. They have begun heavily exploring the practice of arcane magic— magic drawn from the Cosmic Void using external energies, not that of the land or stars, or one’s own willpower.
The city-state of Lyria is ruled by a Stellar Ascendant of that name who is dedicated to the practice and study of all types of the arts.
World Threats:
The Cosmic Void have recently located where the Ascendants have settled, and have begun to secretly infiltrate the land seeking to turn the people to its own means and against the stellar beings… The Void seeks to corrupt the celestial arcane energies within the world to feed off of it, which would destroy it entirely.
World Enigmas:
Six months ago a strange, massive, metallic construct crashed on the eastern coast of the continent from the sky. No one knows what it is made of, or has been able to open it— not even any of the deities that have tried… Every now and then, it glows with an eerie, soft green light in strange geometric patterns that are etched into it in a glass-like material.
How about a peek at a city I just made for a little writing project/experiment? I used Ryuutama’s Town Building sheet to help give me some points to outline for my starting inspiration!
Name: Sungate
Size: Large City (approx. 30k)
Ruler/Representative: Sovereign Ursuletta Stone-Wave
Environment: a coastal cliff side metropolis. The easternmost city on the continent, making it the first large city to be touched by dawn light. It is one of the earliest known settlements.
Representative Building: the Sun Spire is the oldest and tallest building in the city; it was already there when the city was first settled.. On the dawn of the summer solstice, the tower is illuminated by a series of mysterious mirror-like devices that carry the light upwards on the tower until it’s a bright, pinkish-red beacon of dawn light that can be seen for leagues.
Sight/Sounds/Smells: a massive stone and glass tower in the center of a sprawling, cliff side, coastal city. The cries of sea birds and fish mongers and sailors fills the air as you approach along the Pale Road, passing the Dawn Harbors. Salty air, seaweed, and fresh and rotten fish fills your nostrils.
Town’s Threats: Pirates have been growing bolder and attacking trade ships more brazenly and frequently, and closer and closer to the city itself. Last Summer Solstice, the Sun Spire failed to illuminate at all— no one has been able to figure out why, and it’s causing unrest and some fear in the city…
how i feel about this character: i love him overall bc how can you not love eddie, but i’m one of those people who thinks there’s a slightly too big of a gap between s2!eddie and s3!eddie. not only becoming the leader of sibuna but also add in the peddie breakup and he stops dyeing his hair and it’s all too much at once for me fidnfkjgg
all the people i ship romantically w this character: patricia obviously, nina, and mara. mara bc of the senkhara plotline and nina bc of the potential
my non-romantic otp for this character: i mean. i have to say jerome don’t i? yes? yes it’s jerome.
my unpopular opinion about this character: idk if this is unpopular or not but it’s always bothered me how quickly he tells kt he’s the osirian and just spreads that information around. like sir, that’s supposed to be a secret for a reason. also his whole thing w ben pisses me off tbh ᖍ(ツ)ᖌ and final take: tor isn’t canon so he didn’t lose his osirian powers bc fuck that shit
one thing i wish had happened w this character in canon: it is a TRAVESTY eddie and mick didn’t get to interact. just give me one small scene in the s2 finale and i’d be sated, but NO. nothing 😡🚨
so eddara hornwood is caster's eventual wife and first daughter of donnis and ysila hornwood. she is the eldest sister of five children, her first younger sister, bethany, is a sellsword in essos, her youngest sisters and twins, mara and lorra, lorra being a septa and mara a silent sister, and her youngest sibling, owen, heir to house hornwood. eddara is amongst a family of people who have found their calling in life while she feels as if she simply has floated through it, with a high affinity to animals and not that of other people, she has, even as the eldest, been an outcast. though, she spent much of her time alone and in the castle's library, interested in most things maester's were to learn, that of medicine, philosophy, history, astronomy, and spent many hours later than she should have reading
she is a warg but has only ever done so in dreams and without realizing it early in her life, after she marries caster, she's gifted a falcon she names eklen and when she has her first child her vision begins to fade and eklen helps her see. when she has her second child, she goes completely blind and begins having recurring dreams, many of which come true. she has a sense, not being in the north, that she can't truly talk to anyone of the terrible things she sees. the older she gets, the more time she spent by the weirwood and in the eyes of eklen.
eddara didn't have many friends throughout her life aside from several girls she would meet on occasion at tourney's she would attend with her father but she wouldn't consider them close. though, on a trip to braavos early in her and caster's marriage, she went with her sister beth and met a dueling swordsman of her similar age by the name of iacomo and they hit it off fairly well, she had never felt so adored and listened to. when she returned home, for years and years after her and iacomo sent each other letters in secrecy. eddara felt guilty for having such strong emotions for another man while caster showed himself to be nothing but loyal to her, never even so much as looking at other women for too long but this was the first true connection she felt in her life to another person and wanted it and desired it so much she didn't want to let go. she stopped sending letters once she went blind and has truly never emotionally recovered from it, on top of the postpartum depression
