A Complication(Overhaul x Reader)
A/n: So, uh...yeah. I'm gonna do another Overhaul fic because... well, I want to.
Turning her head left and right, Y/n was getting anxious as the minutes ticked off. She wrung her hands out of habit, deathly afraid that something bad happened to her fiance.
Her warm breath came out as a mist as when exhaled. This was truly irritating and not to mention, nerve-wracking! In spite of the coldness, she stayed in her spot, praying for Kai to return.
A nagging though made her heart skip a beat. 'Did he leave me?'
Y/n bit her lip, drawing blood. Another coping mechanism of hers, actually. She was replaying the events that occured before he excused himself.
While they were out on a date, Y/n noticed Kai's stiffness almost as if he's worried for her safety. In fact, he was walking just behind her, ready to pull her towards him if danger presents itself.
She remembered the words he spoke before asking him to stay put and don't move. "I've observed someone spying on us. Please stay here and wait for my return while I settle some things."
Kai wasn't the type to pursue assailants. This was a rare case. Was he worried about her safety? Their identity being exposed?
She wondered what 'settle' really meant to him.
Without noticing it, she began heading over to where Kai disappeared—inside the alley.
All the more reason to be anxious: the alleyway was a hodgepodge of grime, broken glass bottles, dirt and other unsightly things due to the lack of maintenance.
One of her hands tightly gripped the straps of her satchel she was carrying. Her steps were hesitant as she wandered into the alley. What excuse does she have for disobeying Kai's absolute orders to stay put?!
"H-Hello?" Y/n called out, ready to escape the confines of the alley if necessary.
She half-expected someone to grab her from behind, covering her mouth with a handkerchief dyed with chloroform but what she didn't foresee was a body falling from above, landing right on her!
A body belonging to the person she trusted and loved the most—Kai!
Call it luck or the opposite but she was grateful he showed up, though not in the way she anticipated him to. Have you ever seen your fiance dropping from above the sky and falling right on top of you?!
Y/n groaned, wincing at the pain on both her back and head from hitting the concrete. Kai coughed, ripping off his mask that is now covered in blood—his blood. When he saw the state of the female, he literally felt his blood turning ice in his veins.
Kai nimbly got off her frail body, wincing at the ache throbbing on his shoulder from the 'thing' he tried to slaughter.
"K-Kai...?" Y/n blinked back the heaviness resting on her eyelids and forced herself to watch his bruised and bloodied form; what happened? "How'd you g-get up there?"
Gritting his teeth, he assisted her up, wincing as the throbbing intensified. He'd have thought the wound would have gone numb by now since it was exposed to cold air.
"A complication, Y/n." He narrowed his eyes, waiting for the 'creature's next attack. "Didn't I tell you to stay put?"
"Well, you've known me for three years and half a month so you must have thought I wouldn't heed your words..." Although wincing, she tried to sound confident yet the tone of her voice—broken and desperate—expressed the exhaustion she was trying to hide. "What i-is this complication?"
As if on cue, a screech from above them made Y/n's mouth hang open—until Kai forcefully closed it back, claiming that bugs could get in.
She has seen one of those creatures from the news before. She just doesn't know what it's called. That creature appeared in the Hosu City incident that injured a few heroes but was immediately subdued by Endeavor. A winged-being with its brain out in the open. How terrifying!
"Was that the thing spying on us?" she inquired, trying to strike a defensive pose. If it meant getting bombarded by hits just to protect Kai, she'd do so!
Apparently, Kai had no plans for Y/n to be injured further. To keep her from launching herself in front of him to supposedly defend, Kai reluctantly tapped the jacket he was wearing with an uncovered hand.
Within three seconds, it formed into a thin rope made of cotton. Kai didn't hesitate in using said clothe to keep Y/n in place. This time, he didn't fail and poor Y/n could only watch in horror as she was binded rather tightly. She opened her mouth to complain but Kai simply shushed her.
He needed no distractions now. This creature was going to be taught a lesson for making his beloved touch the filthy ground.
So, when it swooped down to ambush him, Kai merely ducked low enough so the creature's claws could only graze his button-up shirt from behind. Ah, what a nuisance!
He waited for an exact moment when the being would fly down again with new attacks aimed solely at him. Multiple Quirks, he had realized made it possible for the creature to hurt him. If it was just a normal Quirk, he'd have no trouble disassembling it out of existence.
Clicking his tongue, Kai moved out of the way as rocks the size of a sumo wrestler came out one by one from it's mouth.
Fortunately, his reflexes were quick as he was able to avoid another attack. He only had to use his Quirk once after all to solve the complication.
After placing a single finger on the creature's brain, it broke apart in just a second. Blood and guts strewn everywhere. Kai sighed, straining his arm once more.
At this moment, due to the agitation bothering her, Y/n stared at him in shock. What if he missed? What if the creature had other plans? What if Kai miscalculated?
Kai locked their eyes together making her mind go blank. All those 'what ifs' vanishing from her thoughts. Her vision was only occupied by the man she loved. Y/n wasn't complaining, though.
"Stop thinking of silly things, Y/n," Kai stated. "I won't perish by that creature's hand. "
"Are you rebelling against me? Maybe I should leave you tied up like that until morning."
Y/n frowned, eye twitching out of annoyance. "You can't just leave me out in the cold! I'll freeze to death!"
"Oh, I won't let you die on me yet. This is just a warning." Kai's shoulders relaxed. Being able to talk casually with Y/n seemed to relieve his stress. "But as a punishment, you'll stay like that until morning."
Her eyes widened. "On the ground? Right here? All night? Alone?"
"That's a tempting suggestion," he pointed out, using his fingers as a support as he pretended to think. "Why don't I—"
"I-It wasn't a suggestion!"
"It wasn't? But I've already thought of—"
"Kai! Don't leave me out here all alone! I'll do anything!" The thought of being stuck in an alleyway littered with guts and blood threatened to make her pour out the contents of her stomach.
"Anything, you say?" Kai smirked, striding over to her, steps painfully slow. "I suppose I could think of a suiting punishment..."
"Stop teasing me, please!" Y/n's cheeks now glowed rosy pink. "I promise to do anything you ask. Just don't leave me al—"
"Hush," Kai scolded, eyes scanning her petite figure tied up just for him to see. When he bound her, he originally planned to keep her out of trouble but currently, Y/n was actually in trouble. In trouble of his urges, Kai corrected.
"If you're going to open your mouth for more nonsense, I recommend you open it for other purposes."
Her oblivious personality was arousing, to say at least and Kai was going to use it to his advantage. "You'll find out soon enough."
