fair enough. Still; at least you could tell he was putting effort in with it. It’s almost like he decided after it’s success: Eight + Daleks is popular so I don’t need to bother with decent plots or characterisation anymore.

I think it’s pretty clear he was trying. There is definitely steps taken towards a recovery arc for Eight and a different arc for Molly, and there were some strong moments along the way, but from what I gather, production reasons limited Molly’s role, which meant her character was severely underutilized. I think it’s a case of that, diminishing returns, and the general difficulty of telling a sixteen-part epic about particles in a girl’s eyes.

YES! Lucie Miller/To The Death was brilliant but everything Eight or Dalek he has written since has been awful. :(

To be honest, that one doesn’t do it for me. It just fundamentally doesn’t appeal to me, popular and beloved as it is. Just a case of the style completely clashing with the sort of story I find rewarding.

They should’ve killed off Rex and made Esther immortal instead of the other way around. He was just awful, but she had potential.

Totally agreed, though admittedly if they’d swapped it around I’d have probably cheered rather been sad at that part...
