Admiral Hackett’s supernatural knack for sending the Normandy’s crew off on a mission that seemed straight-forward before turning into an absolute shit-show was at least funny this time…

“Get back here, you little motherfucker!”

Kaidan watched Shepard chase a tiny clever creature down the slope, making a Herculean effort to not double over in laughter at the spectacle.  Ashley, on the other hand, showed no such restraint.

“AHAHAHAHA!  Bob and weave, Skipper!  Bob and weave!”

“This will only end in tears,” Kaidan smiled and shook his head, bending down next to the little monkey-like being at his feet.  “Come here, little guy, I’m not gonna hurt you.”

The monkey inspected Kaidan’s offered hand with suspicion, keeping its distance and sniffing the air.  It looked up at him and chirped indignantly.

Ashley peeked over Kaidan’s shoulder, “They are really cute.  Do you think Shepard will let us bring one back to the ship?”

“You really want to subject it to Shepard’s driving?” The monkey inched closer to Kaidan and reached out a small finger to touch Kaidan’s before yanking its hand back with a squeak. 

He could hear the snort of Ashley’s laughter through her helmet, “Yeah, you’re right.  That’s animal cruelty.”

The monkey gained some more confidence and touched Kaidan’s hand again, this time clutching his finger.  Kaidan couldn’t really feel it through the layers of armor, but the haptic feedback told him that the little thing was stronger than it looked.

“Looks like you made a friend, LT.” 

Kaidan leaned closer in; it certainly didn’t have the data module they were looking for, but when he tried to pull his hand back, the monkey didn’t let go.  “Hey now, I need that back.”

“Problem?”  Ashley snickered, walking around him.  The monkey ignored her and yanked harder on Kaidan’s hand.  “Aww, it’s shaking your hand like a little businessman!”

Ashley snickering devolved into a full-on guffaw.  Kaidan craned his neck to look up at her.  “What?”

Something about all the non main mission planets you visit being so empty and devoid of life in most places. Idk its kind of intimidating (when youre not raging at the mako because it wont let you go up a 90 degree angle like me <3<3<3) plus the fact that this specific sphere is so out of the way right on the edge of the map.

Which like, something about obvious out of bounds places in games is really unnerving to me like im not sure if i can explain it right but i dont find it frustrating its actually really fascinating to be like okay why is this blocked off what are the in universe reasons. And something about seeing a wide open space thats just unavailable is so unnerving idk especially depending on what the game tries to tell you to get you away from there. Its almost like a forbidden kind of zone you know? In game? Idk im rambling but something about it because so alien close to something thats a forbidden zone idk it helps shhsjskskxhsk

And the sphere itself is so weird its liquid suspended in animation and it floats and its still operational after like thousands of years and AUGHHH its so cool and mysterious and weird. Especially because like in game development making unique assets costs resources obviously. Which is why all the side quest maps are repetitive but the main mission maps arent but this is a unique asset (would later be reused but that's beside the point for now i havent gotten there shshjsks) that most people would never even find? Like they really wanted this in here and thats just neat someone really wanted to make sure this lore got into the game and got into it this way

God like also the fact i didnt know this existed and i just found it and augghhh idk it was a nice discovery it rly helped with the exploring the universe part of mass effect you know? And like humanity being new to the galaxy BUT ALSO no one having knowledge of the proteans really and ahhhh the lore its so cool and the way its written is perfect and ominous and auvvvhdushhxsuwoshakz LORE

God the writing is just so ominous between it being another vision, shepard being like im fine no one talk to me haha not really tho someone please, the implications that other aliens were watching humanity (which comes back up), the reapers being mentioned in this message (before the audience knows theyre sentient probably and not just sarens ship) and that they wipe out anything and everything and take no chances and thats where the message ends AUGHHHH ITS SO GOOD

i love the mass effect lore especially stuff about the cyclical nature of the universe due to the reapers but AUGH im not reading the codex more of this AUGH
