Spent most of Monday and Tuesday at the hospital after my left arm (with the PICC line) and hand started getting purple and swelling. Turns out I had a non-occlusive DVT (basically, a blood clot in a major vein that only partially obstructed it) with phlebitis (inflammation in the blood vessel).
They put me on Heparin and watched me over night, eventually removed the PICC line, then almost kept me a SECOND night but when they found my insurance would cover Eliquis (a good blood thinner) they gave me a high dose of that with a prescription for more and let me go home.
So now I am undexpectedly catheter-free and being careful not to bump into things or otherwise cause bleeding ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ My arm is still kind of dark and tight feeling, but I was assured that the clot would dissolve with some time taking the Eliquis and told what danger sings to look for/when to come back in.
Thusly, the saline infusions are paused for now until we can figure out another way to do them at home sans-implants (possibly weekly peripheral lines).
Not a fun couple days, but hey - with the PICC line out I can take baths again, so silver linings!
