You might find my research using monkeys abhorrent, but it could save your life - the guardian I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the care, safety and wellbeing of non-human primates is not, as the author suggests, 'paramount' to researchers. The word paramount meaning "of chief concern or importance". Animal testing and paramount concern for care/safety/wellbeing of those being non-consensually tested upon is mutually exclusive. More accurately, the lives of human primates are of paramount concern to researchers given that these tests and drugs have no benefit to those who are first tested upon, and the suffering of those experimented upon is a secondary concern when/if it's considered at all (note, for instance, that care only seems to extend to our primate family rather than mice or rats). Also interesting to note the claim that those opposed to animal testing are being 'emotional', as though a headline appealing to our collective fear of death is not also emotive. The normalisation of animal testing is one aspect of systemic speciesism, regardless of my acceptance or non-acceptance of death, chronic pain or disability. The fact that torturing a non-human animal may save me some day makes zero difference to either the system or those trapped within it.
