Let me tell you guys a story... This weekend @oakmoontarot and I drove ourselves up to Lawrence, KS so I could teach at @omtreeshala and then bop over to Parkville, MO to teach again the next day at @ompranayoga. It was a crazy busy weekend full of family and work and lots of driving. The workshops went well, and teaching at Om Prana was such a blast. When it was time to settle up after the class, Wendy, the owner, matter of factly informed me that Om Prana had decided to cover the rest of what I needed for my training and handed me a check. I was totally floored. Luckily Danielle pulled out her phone in time to catch the next moment: me giving Wendy a huge hug. This process has been so life changing for me. Asking for help is not something that comes easily for me, and receiving said help even less so. But here I am. Learning something new. About myself. About other people. About the nature of the Universe. It’s big, y’all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who’s helped make this happen. Thank you. If you wanted to help and donate, you still can. I have to admit, while I find my work intrinsically meaningful, there is something extremely life giving about what happens when someone chooses to respond to what I do with gratitude. Getting this care package in the mail yesterday from the kiddos I taught last week was such a huge breath of life for me. All healthy relationships are reciprocal. There is always an exchange. But what happens if we break that cycle? We can be so caught up in what we’re doing for others we don’t open ourselves up to receive the gifts their trying to give back to us. Sometimes, on the flip side, we’re so focused on what others can do for us we don’t give back in proper measure. What always seems so crazy to me is that we can be doing both at the same time. Where can you open up to receive other’s gratitude for what you do? Where do you need to show gratitude of your own? I teamed up with @austinrelationalwellness to host an#Enneagram #meetup at @stouthauscoffee Tuesday night. As we got into talking about our numbers, a phrase came out of my mouth that surprised me with how quickly and intensely it summed up so much of my life: If it isn't hard, it isn't real. I spoke the words knowing, intellectually, they weren't in line with reality, but, holy wow, they came from so deep in my gut it's obvious so much of my subconscious and unconscious still believe them. This is why I love the enneagram. Especially when it's learned and practiced in community. Sometimes we say exactly what we need to hear when we're talking to someone else. This is a still shot from a secret project I'm working on. Being in front of the camera and creating content for people brings up all sorts of shit for me. I did it all the time when I played music, but it was always a struggle. I never really enjoyed the finished product, nothing was ever quite right or what I wanted. I would finish a record and immediately be ready to make the next one, but this time better. That kind of attitude lead to some pretty serious burnout, and I'm seeing how those attitudes are trying to sneak back into what I'm doing now. But this time I know better. I'm learning to love and accept where I'm at right now. Sure I have an idea of where I would like to go and how I would like things to be, but I have a much clearer understanding that this is a process. I'm working on living in that creative gap and this project is giving me soooo many opportunities to do that. I'm finding by relaxing and accepting where I am, I'm actually really proud of this content and how this project is coming together. And that feeling is actually fueling me to move forward and continue to refine it. The joy is moving me forward.
