Maedhros's dynamics after his abdication are keeping me up:/

I am of the mind that Maedhros did it by his own will, but also that Fingolfin was pleased by it, and that if Maedhros hadn´t done it, Fingolfin would have demanded it. However, the dynamic that must have been created between them! The would be king, now trusted lord, and friend of the high prince!??

I think most people agree that some of Fëanor´s followers, if not most, still thought of Maedhros as the king, or at least heavily disagreed with the abdication, but did some of Fingolfin´s followers disagree too? Would Fingolfin getting the crown as a gift sit wrong with some of his followers? Maybe some of the more conservative older ones? And what of those who noticed the influence Maedhros kept despite not being king? How many saw him as a king in all but title?

And what about Fingon, when he is crowned?? How is Maedhros' position seen then? And does people view of it change?

What of Ereinion, when he was crowned? A boy. I find it interesting how it sounds as if Maedhros still has plenty of followers, while Ereinion is looking after scattered Noldor, Sindar, and Avari on Círdan´s island.

Also, this can easily fall into the discussion about "the union of Maedhros" and whether it was named before or after it failed.
