Returning the favour

Part 2 of my s/I x dabi fic (part one)

Because it's my birthday I'm gifting myself more fanfic.

As the handcuffs tightened securely with a click, the police escorted the villain into their vehicle and drove away, encouraging the civilians and reporters on the area to disperse and gradually leave.

Eris sighed after forcing a smile for the camera, a microphone no longer shoved in his face. He hated dealing with reporters right after handling a villain. All she wanted to do was take a needed break after getting things over with amd recover from any injury, sprain or bruises.

It was hard to smile when you're pretty sure you had a bruised rib and might have torn something in your arm. She learned over the years how to hold one, small and thin lipped but noticeable.

Grey clouds rolled overhead with a roar of thunder, cutting through his thoughts and bringing eris' attention to the sky.

"Awe man, seriously? You've got to be kidding me...I really need to keep an eye on the weather.." he sighed, hanging his head as droplets of rain started hitting her wings.

"Yeah..you do." A familiar voice spoke up next to him.

Eris quickly lifted his head again to find a clear umbrella being head over him, the person next to him holding it up over the both of them.

"Dabi?" Eris blinked. Sure enough the familiar voice belonged to the same villain she gave this very umbrella to a week or so back. "What are you.."

"What's it look like? Dont make a big deal out of it alright, I'm just returning the favour so we're even" his tone was quick like hed rehursed it and wanted to get it out before she thought anything else. His eyes didnt meet his as he spoke either.

"Oh, well, thanks." Eris smiled a bit. There was a quiet moment before dabi spoke up again.

"So..that was some fight you got yourself into. You're surprisingly not so beat up after taking that guy on. Though I guess he was the idiot for taking on someone with wings when hed got a ground quirk." Dabi snickered, seemingly amused by the other villains failure.

"That was funny huh?" Eris couldn't help a small chuckle "he still got a few good hits in himself though."

Dabi's head turned to look at her, noticing the way she held herself. "You're pretty good at hiding your injuries."

"When I need to"

"What you need is a doctor." He scoffed.

"What, you're gonna walk me to the hospital?" She teased, enjoying a light bit of banter.

"Cant you just fly there? Your wings arent injured." He pointed out.

"No, but it's raining." He sighed "cant fly in the rain, my wings just get weighed down as soon as they get wet, so I'm grounded"

"Should you even be telling me this?" Dabi questioned. If it was a weakness, he probably should have kept it to herself instead of telling a known villain.

"Pronably not, but we're even right? You cant start fire in the rain, I cant fly." Eris smirked a bit.

Dabi simply rolled his eyes at the remark. "Yeah yeah, we're even, weirdo."

There was a long pause, the two of them watching the rain gradually get heavier as it fell, puddles formed and grew, the surface of the water rippling with each drop.

Thunder rolled in the distance, but lighting hadnt yet showed itself, meaning they were just at the edge of the storm and it was slowly making it's way over the city.

"Come on, angel." Dabi sighed, breaking the silence as he motioned for her to follow. Angel. Last time he called him that it was meant to be a mocking insult.

"What?" Eris tilted his head, unsure what dabi was doing.

"Let's get your dumbass some help." Dabi scoffed as if it was obvious.

Eris began to walk beside him, dabi holding up the umbrella high enough it stayed over both their heads and didnt bump into eris' wings.

"I'm only going to get you so far, I'm not walking you all the way." He stated, walking them through the rain in the direction of the hospital.

"Fair enough. But...I could have just walked myself." Why was he helping, when he could just be taking advantage of her injuries and the fact she was grounded?

"You also could have just left me in the rain back there." Dabi mumbled.

He was really just helping..because eris gave him the umbrella. As confusing and silly as it seemed, he decided not to question if anymore.

Maybe building a good little relationship with this villain could lead to something down the road. It'd be nice to have an actual friend she could drop the heroic persona around...or something like that.

Time would tell.

I have no ideas for a part 3 or anything

even the night changes - angst! Prosciutto

synopsis: His voice guided you to come back to his arms.

author's note: I rarely write and don't know why it should be this way but spoiler alert a little bit.

She's fallin', doesn't even know it yet

... Havin' no regrets is all that she really wants

It's been months since you finally decided to move on to your ex-lover. It was an on-and-off relationship. You were his first lover and so does to you. God knows how the both of you struggled to maintain this pathetic relationship but you couldn't just seem to accept the fact of letting all this go. You can't be happy even if you wanted to, the bittersweet feeling just lingered. You lied about being okay with people who were always there for you and yourself. It was really a tough decision to accept what happened in the past. It was impossible until you were tired of the endless cycle of bottling up negative emotions.

You were doing fine, you're thankful. You finally managed to think on the bright side even in the slightest. Your parents always told you that it was fated but you didn't expect to be hurt so bad that you don't recognize yourself in the world without him anymore. It was a warm afternoon that you called your friend. They said they were out hanging with someone until a familiar melody came. You suddenly heard Prosciutto's voice over your friend's call.

"y/n?"

You can't believe it, it's impossible. Were you imagining things? Did your friend have someone in there with the same voice as Prosciutto? You overheard their conversation, apparently, your friend forgot to mute the call. You stood there in silence until you talked the most random thing just to make it look like you didn't hear it. The call ended afterward, you just wished the call didn't exist. Or maybe you wanted to hear Prosciutto's voice even longer.

After what happened, you tried your best to be distracted as if you didn't remember Prosciutto's voice. You missed him, you won't just admit it. You wanted to contact and go with him but 4 years since the break up is already too late. Fate suddenly planned to toy with you when you the image of Prosciutto came into your dream.

He was there, the same image as before. He didn't age even a little, he's still the same man you loved and imagined a lifetime with. He walked slowly as soft footsteps echoed the room around. He put his hand on your shoulder, and you closed your eyes with a sense of uncertainty about what would happen.

"Shh love, this is not a dream."

You know Prosciutto is lying, there's no way he'll be there for you. Even the both of you had a relationship before, there are some things that you didn't know about your lover. You didn't know what his real job was, he kept it really private because he don't want you to get in trouble.

"Y/n, before I left I saw our future together. Our family, our plans together it all happened. Those were some of my best memories that started when I met you. Thank you really for making me the happiest man."

He whispered to your other ear, you could feel his sincerity. Even if it sounds cruel, you admit you were the one who broke up with him. It was pure of guilt and Prosciutto didn't ask your intentions. He respected you. You even heard rumors that he stopped looking for other ladies after he went through with you. He suddenly disappeared until you learned from your connections that he left the city for his job.

"Love, could I ask one favor to you?"

Your eyes suddenly widened and finally, Prosciutto was in front of you. He took your hand closer to his lips and gave small lovely kisses like he used to. He gave a small fainted smile before saying his farewell.

"Don't forget to give me my favorite flowers at the cemetery. I don't mind if you will find another partner because you deserve another chance at love. I'm happy about what we started, I love you always y/n it was a grateful dead. "

Very Special

Geralt wasn’t the most emotionally intelligent man, he could own up to that.

A witcher was not meant to feel emotions, let alone navigate them clearly.

So it took him some time to understand what was happening. 

It almost made sense then that the realization came to him when he least expected it. When he wasn't even thinking of anything. 

It was late spring when Geralt left the small village. Something too small to have a name worth remembering, too out of the way to be reliant on regular merchants, too happy and tightly knit to be in need of a witcher.

He didn’t plan on staying. He’d told Jaskier to wait outside of the wooden walls as he sold some hides he’d collected. They would move much quicker if Jaskier didn't get a chance to get in trouble in the village.

By the time he came back the bard was performing. Not for a drunk crowd, not filthy songs that had lips curling and blood pumping.

He sang simple ditties as children ran around, tried to dance with him. 

The witcher picked up the elated shrieks and thrilling smiles before spotting them. He should’ve used that as an advantage to prepare himself for the seight in front of him:

Jaskier smiled something open and wide. His eyes small and outshining the sun as they followed the kids. His singing only stopped to show them how to dance, his fingers never left the lute.  He had a flower crown on his head, petals matching those in every child’s hair. Even the way light made everything more vibrant and alive helped in tricking the witcher. He would've hought he was looking at a painting, were it not for the movement.

Geralt’s heart ached, and the bard’s smile didn’t drop as their eyes met. He  walked on to meet him halfway, even if he’d have to turn right back as soon as he reached the witcher.

He didn’t seem to mind, despite how much he would complain during their travels. He acted as if he didn’t want to be from Geralt any longer.

And maybe it was to thank him for his friendship that Geralt lowered his head. He thought the white and yellow looked better on Jaskier, but the bard didn't even need to speak his demand.

Maybe it was catching himself allowing this, enjoying the closeness, that made him realize. What a fool he had been. 

There was this thing Jaskier did, just before he started speaking. This thing where he took a breath raising his shoulders with it, as if to get ready to speak. To be clear and be able to speak uninterrupted.

There was less than a blink of time between that and the moment when his voice picked up.

But somehow, Geralt managed to catch that moment and speak first. 

“Fuck.”

Jaskier abruptly shut his mouth, going into a confused pout with a few chins too many.

“What?? Did you forget something?”

“I fucked up.” 

“Why? What happened?” 

“I’m falling for someone.”

Geralt wouldn’t usually speak like this, unprompted, but the feeling had been so all-encompassing,  the realization so sudden, he couldn’t help himself.

And for the first time he’d managed to shut Jaskier up. 

He just stared as Geralt climbed back up on his saddle, and started a slow pace. For a moment his face did something strange. Like he needed to physically involve his face to process the information given. Like he wanted to frown but not be theatrical about it, or even allow it really. 

And then he was back to speaking, back to his clear and far reaching voice.

“Damn. Must be a special person to make an emotionless witcher fall in love!”

His tone was teasing. The little shit.

“Yes. Real special.”

Jaskier left it at that for a grand total of two heartbeats before he was running at Geralt’s side. He asked and demanded who this mysterious woman could ever be. Geralt told him he didn’t need to know, and lead Roach along, the Path somewhat less harsh as Jaskier acted outraged.

A Reminder of You

Street markets were always a sight for sore eyes for Eris. All the travel on missions really wore down on her along with all the fighting. Sometimes, a few hours of shopping local goods was good for the soul. Something about all the cute little trinkets and snacks never failed to make her happy.

Qrow was never as enthused it seemed, but he could never say no to Eris, and they had already finished their mission so there was no excuse for him to say no. So here they were, Eris bounding from one stall to another and Qrow slowly trailing behind.

Every once in a while Eris holds up something, yelling out to Qrow, smiling wide to show him. Qrow never really gave her a big response but Eris could tell by his small expressions how he felt. A no on a small glass animal, a maybe to a wooden box. Eris politely slots them back into their places, mostly content to just share her finds with her partner. Hunting partner. Nothing more.

Well friends, of course, but the word partner could get so loaded in her mind that she had to stomp it out whenever it sprouted up. She wanted it, sure, but she was only one half of the partnership and the potential of ruining what they had... the price was too heavy. So she was content to spend her days and nights fighting by his side, because being with him was what matters.

Lost in her thoughts she almost missed a stand, but thank goodness she didn’t because it made her eyes light up. Sure it was probably made for small children, but a stand full of plushies was right up her alley. So many small stuffed animals, so little money. But they did just finish a mission so one little one couldn’t hurt... but which one to pick. A little cat, a lizard, a crow-

A crow! Eris quickly grabs it and runs to the outer edge of the stall, poking out to find Qrow. There he was, only two stands back.

“Qrow! Qrow!” Eris hides the plush behind her back.

Qrow perks up at his name, turning to Eris with a raised brow. With a huge grin on her face Eris pulls the crow out from behind her back.

“Look, it’s you!” The small orb-like crow sits perfectly in her hand, looking at Qrow with red bead eyes.

Qrow’s face immediately fell into the ‘really’ look, but not one out of malice, but fond annoyance.

Eris continues to beam as she waggles the crow around a bit. “My name is Qrow and I’m tiny and grumpy. Caw caw caw.”

“Eris.” Qrow is clearly hiding a grin as he walks closer.

“I’m so scary and intimidating caw ca-“ Eris is cut off by grabbing the plush out of her hands. “Hey!”

Qrow looks it over carefully, holding it up out of Eris’ reach. “I’m not this tiny. Or this round.”

“You wish you were that cute!” She jumps up and snatches the bird back and holds it close to her. “Don’t get jealous cause there might be another man in my life.”

“Yes. I’m so jealous and wounded you would pick someone else over me.” His voice is filled with sarcasm, accented with a smirk.

“Well I’m going to get him.” Eris pulls out her wallet and walks back over to the seller, handing over the cash. She then walks back out, very proud of her new purchase.

“Now there’s two of you.” She hold the bird next to her face, looking up at Qrow.

“You’re really going to drag that everywhere aren’t you?” Qrow says as they start to wander to the next stand.

“Of course I am.” Eris slides him into her bag, making sure it’s little head was poking out.

“You’re ridiculous.”

“Yeah, yeah. But you stick around me so who’s really the ridiculous one.”

“You’ve got a good point.”

After that they fall back into their regular pattern, with one extra little bird joining them. And after that she does carry it everywhere, it never straying too far from her person. At night it sits in bed with her, not exactly a perfect stand in, but a comfort none the less.

The little crow wasn’t him, but she loved the reminder of him all the same.
