How do I know if a hero is ✨The One✨?
My other half, my foul mate, my one true hate?
Ah, yes. The ultimate question of every villain, "Is my hero 'The One?'". I must let you know, my evil ally, that this question is one that shows you are a true villain. Every one of us have had this question ring in our minds at least once in our evil reign. Is this my arch nemesis? Well, fear not, fellow villain. I have gone through many heroes in my time as a thief.
I have learnt that many villain (even myself) have what is called "a type". A kind of hero that we want to be the one. The Chosen One. (Shining jewels for eyes, perfect hair, stunning body, and a longing desire for justice. You know the drill.) This is "Chosen One" is rarely the type of arch nemesis you want to have. They are almost always too young and inexperienced for you to bring out your best villainous self or even feel comfortable fighting them. Even when you do find a rare adult Chosen One, they always seem to disappoint. They get jaded by time and betrayal, and are often better for a one-off fight rather than an ongoing battle of the wits. Now that you have ridded yourself of any desire to have a Chosen One as an arch nemesis, we can talk about finding your foul mate.
You need someone that brings out your true evil, that makes you want to make your doomsday machines bigger and better than before. As I mentioned before, anyone too young and/or inexperienced will not likely make a good arch nemesis. However, rookie villains may find comfort in growing up (in experience and/or age) with a rookie hero. Either way, you should find a hero that makes you try harder.
One important thing to remember is that your one true hate might not find you perfect for them. They too, are finding someone that brings out their "true heroism" or whatever. You need to find a hero that actually hates you back. You may not be each other's one true hate at first, but give it time. You can't expect things to click immediately just because you are foul mates.
A final reminder for every villain out there is to not go into villainy looking for your other half. Please don't be so one-dimensional. We're villains! We're here to do whatever we want! We're here for the cooler costumes and letting loose all our repressed hatred! Villainous luck, my villain-in-arms. May your future arch nemesis be crushed beneath your feet.
