Saw your tags about the word “throuple” on the ao3 tags update, and like, yeah. I hold the same opinion. My polycule holds the same opinion! It’s not a fun word and it sounds weird! For us it’s either “polycule” or “family.” We are not a throuple.

How secretive do we have to be about the stories/art we're working on? Like, can I talk about the story here on tumblr, or is it supposed to be more private?

I'm fine with people posting Wip snippets and previews of art and even talk about writing stuff. Whatever helps bring motivation so long as it's not posting whole chapters or basically the entire complete artwork before it's posting time

I haven’t followed you, but you did appear on my dash! Honestly, thank you for expressing your annoyance at the people complaining about the word “whump.” It was very difficult for me to try to be polite in my response to that post. Like, not only do they have the ability to look up the origin of the word, but they also don’t even have to use the word! I’m also incredibly sick and tired of posts like that. They feel condescending of not just the word, but the entire genre to me. So, again, thank you for expressing what I wasn’t brave enough to. The original post really did have me so miffed!

Gonna put the rest of this under readmore (bc i cant seem to keep myself from writing essays, you know me) but I wanna reiterate: the post I reblogged I used as an example for no other reason than that it was the most recent one i saw, and I guess it caught me just in the right mood to finally say something about it, since no one ever seems to disagree with these posts at all, no matter how rude or condescending the wording may be. I'm aware it was largely a joke. No I'm not taking a post that wasn't meant to be taken seriously and "crashing out" over it. I'm not angry at op or anyone who ever made this same joke before, or agreed with it even. It's fine, it's not that deep, I understand this fully, believe me.

This is a slightly specific example, but it fits well enough. I'm Hungarian. Whenever I tell someone this, every single time they cannot keep themself from making the "Are you hungry? 😂😂😂" joke to me at least once. Sometimes they even warn me before, saying they know its dumb, and then they say it anyway. And it's fine! I don't actually hate them for it, I'm not even annoyed, I dont think they're making fun of me or my language or my culture. I roll my eyes, laugh it off and go ha-ha, very funny, and i keep going on with my day. I don't actually care that much, I expect them to eventually say the joke at least once.

I've been seeing more and more posts like this recently, and all I ever see are dozens of people reblogging it agreeing with it! Some people shyly/jokingly comment something along the lines of "its to keep us humble" and laugh along. I know this community is extremely accepting and kind and, ironically, has a massive dislike for confrontation and discourse, and we're only happy to see new people join and be curious about the terminology, no matter who they are! And no matter who you ask, they'll answer you as if they haven't had to answer this same question two hundred times before!! It doesn't even matter how rudely you ask, since i saw someone ask using the R slur (???) like a week or two ago, and despite this, their ask got answered with absolute sincerity (??????), as if they were the most polite person to ever ask, without a single drop of distaste from the person answering!

People are rly fucking kind in this community, overly so! We're extremely accepting, since being into whump as a genre immediately weirds most people out, just on a base level, and we know this, so we're extra careful and patient, especially with people who seem new here. So I started to slowly go from "I must be the only one thinking this/It's not that big a deal" to "I think nobody else wants to say anything in fear of getting dogpiled or made fun of, or sounding too sensitive". Especially since the culture here — here being the whump tags, even more so than the wider tumblr community — is to just not interact with anything you don't like, be that tropes that squick you out or discourse about something stupid. Tagging is an inherently mandatory part of posting here, where it's so easy to find things you do not want to see. We do not dwell on any sort of negativity; we block and keep scrolling.

I think a lot of people here are so lovely. They're sweethearts, I haven't had one bad interaction with anyone here. I've seen people get hate anons and instead of laughing at the asker's cowardly nature, they actually answer them like they aren't clearly just being rude to them on purpose! Like, actually for real try to explain themselves to hate anons! I've seen this happen more than once!!!

So I am here to let all of you know that you don't have to let people walk all over you just because you're into something weird. You are allowed to laugh at hate anons. You're allowed to disagree with jokes made in bad taste. You're allowed to like the word whump, how silly it sounds, the dissonance between its tone and what it stands for.

And no, you don't have to answer "what is whump" if you feel the person asking is being weird about it. You can tell them to go fuck themself. Be meaner!
