I have a lazy eye and I’m constantly called out for it and made fun of for it. I’m an adult, I go and order a coffee. The adult behind the counter laughs and calls her friends over. She can’t take my order because she is laughing so much and pointing at me. She asks me multiple times what’s wrong with me. I state my condition in simple terms before she asks again with a smirk.

WTF…

It's genuinely so infuriating how people will see someone with even the slightest physical difference, and immediately begin acting like a petty highschool bully.

What is funny about the direction your eye is facing? How is that so hilarious that she can't even take your order seriously, and literally calls a group of people over to look at you like you're an animal in a zoo?

I genuinely do not understand people like this.

Stop making fun of drawings where the eyes are close together or far apart. Stop comparing their features to animals. It's not funny. Your mockery impacts real people with orbital hypertelorism and orbital hypotelorism.

I have been bullied so badly in school for having strabismus that my parents had to get me surgery to get it "fixed"

(this wasn’t like a huge deal but it’s kinda stuck with me)

i have strabismus (intermittent exotropia specifically). i’ve had strabismus since birth. my mom was taking pictures of myself and like other family members. there were a few photos where my eye was drifting very obviously (because i was tired). she looked at the photos and was like “are you making that weird face on purpose?” i wasn’t making a weird face, i was smiling normally. my eyes are just misaligned. and she knows that, i inherited the condition from her (although hers is very mild and mine is much more severe and obvious).

I have strabismus, buck teeth, a birthmark on my face, a ton of acne scars, and a mouth that doesn’t fully close. I think I’m pretty but I don’t think anyone else has ever told me that. I always get advice on how to “fix” how I look ):

I have pretty bad intermittent alternating exotropia in both my eyes but especially my left. When I discovered my eyes did this as a kid I immediately decided to make myself the butt of the joke. People laugh and it’s better than having them point out my drifting eye. Now it’s made my eyes worse because I did it as a “party trick” to make people laugh.

This is deformimisia and horrific medical parental abuse. Wtf. I hear so many stories about the way caregivers try to "correct" their children's physical characteristics and it is so disturbing every time.
