Face mapping Also known as mien shiang, which directly translates to “face reading,” is a 3,000 year old Chinese ancient practice. It is a belief that a person’s skin is a reflection of their inner health, and it views the face as a map with each section connecting to different organs. When there’s a bodily imbalance, it’s said that the skin will show this via pimples (breakouts), redness, excessive oil, luster, dullness, color or dryness. The location of these blemishes or conditions on the face supposedly represents the organ that’s affected. There’s no real scientific basis to Chinese face mapping. Instead, it’s based on years of observation and a belief that energy, Qi, flows to and from organs along invisible pathways. Το INORI – PRAYER* αποτελεί ένα έργο βαθύτατα μελετημένο, που για την υλοποίησή του απαιτήθηκαν τρεις μήνες συνεργασία πολλών ατόμων στην προσπάθεια τους να παρουσιάσουν κάποιες πτυχές της κινέζικής και της ιαπωνικής κουλτούρας μέσα από μια πρωτότυπη καλλιτεχνική έκφραση. Το σύστημα χαρτογράφησης προσώπων επέτρεψε την παρακολούθηση έντονων παραστάσεων, κάτι που ήταν αδύνατο μέχρι τώρα, χάρη στη χρήση του προβολέα DynaFlash που διαθέτει τελευταίας τεχνολογίας και της υψηλής ανίχνευσης ταχύτητας (1000fps).

Είναι ενδιαφέρον κανείς να ερευνήσει την σημειολογική προσέγγιση αυτού του βίντεο, που η προβαλλόμενη εικόνα μοιάζει να είναι ενσωματωμένη σε μέρος του δέρματος και των εκφράσεων ενός ανθρώπινου προσώπου, το οποίο παραμορφώνεται ή μεταμορφώνεται και ενισχύεται εκθετικά. Το θέμα του έργου είναι η ίδια η Ζωή και συνδυάστηκε με το μουσικό κομμάτι που “ενσαρκώνει” τη ραδιενέργεια, με σκοπό να αποδοθούν τα δεινά της τελευταίας που είναι ο θάνατος και παράλληλα η ταλαιπωρία και η θλίψη. Αυτό αποτυπώνεται εικονικά με μαύρα δάκρυα, κρανία, κομμένα πρόσωπα, μάσκες Noh και το Heart Sutra.

Αξίζει συνεπώς να σημειωθεί πως μέσω αυτής της τεχνολογίας συνδυάζονται δύο έμψυχα όντα με ένα άψυχο και αυτό καταλήγει σε μια πιο φιλοσοφική διάσταση το θέμα. Αυτό ,συνεπάγεται με τη ζωή και το θάνατο, δηλαδή τον άνθρωπο που  “παλεύει” ενάντιας της τεχνολογίας, αφού αυτή παρά τα πλεονεκτήματα που παρέχει, οδήγησε στην αλλοτρίωση και την αποξένωση των ατόμων.
