Best underrated butterfly big fanfiction recs?
Sorry it took so long to respond to this ask! But now that I’ve got some extra time due to the library being closed down, here are some underrated Strange Magic (ButterflyBog) recs in no particular order. (More of them are from FFN than AO3, because the former is my “home” fanfiction site and the one I spend more time on. Some of them are posted on both sites, however, and I’ve only linked to one.)
1. Matter of Pride by TigressDreamer (not ButterflyBog-centric, but super cute, funny, and unique take on the whole cast of Strange Magic)
2. Silly Dreams by xxBTGXX (short and sweet ficlet focusing on Bog’s insecurities in the relationship)
3. Xiphoid by moonlit_wings (Super cool character study of Marianne as she is seen by the other characters in the movie)
4. Your World by Silent Hallelujah (Sweet one-shot of Bog visiting the Fairy Kingdom and both of them dealing with fairy and elf subjects who aren’t happy with the new couple. Also, Bog being a over-protective dork.)
5. The Only Exception by Just 2 Dream Of You (Marianne only barely refraining from beating up judgy fairies and lots of sweet -and somewhat steamy- ButterflyBog interaction.)
6. Gift of the Magi by GoodFae (A bittersweet, poignant AU based on one of my favorite short stories. Some mature content is discussed but nothing explicit.)
7. Things that Were, Things that Are, Things that are To Come by StrongerThanAnySword (Past, present, and future glimpses at the characters of Strange Magic and their relationships - very insightful, sweet character/relationship study)
8. Let Me Count the Ways: Ten Important Numbers in Bog’s Life by Humanities_Handbag (clever, creative, sweet, and romantic Bog-centric one-shot)
9. Burning Love by Humman (A ButterflyBog proposal and marriage and Bog in all of his dorkiest of dorky glory, what’s not to love?)
10. Names by plush_anon (cute, funny, and very in character discussion of middle names)
Well…I could go on and on. Frankly, there isn’t a Strange Magic fic I’ve ever read that I didn’t like. But ten seems like a good number. But these are ones I’ve really enjoyed that don’t have as many comments/kudos/likes and that I don’t see talked about in the fandom as much. Leave these authors some love!
MINIMUM GOAL REACHED!
We reached our minimum goal less than 48 hour after launching our indiegogo campaign and we are FREAKING OUT!
We’re so excited, we can barely function.
What we’d like to do now is see if we can raise DOUBLE our budget! Doing so would help us pay our authors more, and possibly commission more art to include in/with this book!

“The climax moved me more than anything has in a while. The evocation of love spreading its roots under the surface of taciturn Victorian masculinity, cracking stigma with its survival force, is really beautiful.” - Penny Armstrong

That's one of the nice things about small fandoms...people seem so much more appreciative!
Prompt An Author!
Hey guys!
We hope you all were able to check out our big, exciting announcement about the release of Just Like That (Gone and Changed) by Clara W. Barrow. We are incredibly proud and so excited for you all to read this lovely romance!
We would also like to offer you, our amazing followers, the chance to prompt our immensely talented authors. We’d like to post snippets and fun bits of delicious fiction here for you to enjoy.
So what do YOU want to read? Person A/Person B do X, Y, or Z? Person A meets Person B on this planet in this star-year with the airship and the android and the etc. etc.? Person A and Person B in Victorian times? In the Roaring 20′s? Backwoods of Maine? Mean streets of [city]? Under the sea? On a train?
Hopefully you get the idea! Send us your prompts (stick to “Person A/B,” please, we won’t be able to fill prompts with characters from other media for this) and perhaps you will get a response in the form of a bite-sized story from one of our authors!
