XFiles S01e20, Darkness Falls

With Olympic National Forest, talk of monkey wrenching, and quarantine procedures (I am a PNW interdisciplinary health student and former frequenter of rad spaces.), this hit both literally and figuratively close to home.

Off-topic fansquee:

1. Scully's outfits in this episode are on point.

2. I may dress like Scully, but I am definitely Mulder. So Mulder. Wow.

3. Shoulder touching!!!

But, Holy crap.

I'm not sure what is most terrifying--the rave-green neon carnivorous quasi-fireflies, the flagrant illegal logging, the way the govt. scientist in Winthrop tells Mulder that failure to eradicate the creatures is "Not an option", or the fact that Scully seems actually shook up. (Okay, maybe not so much on that last one, but still.) The way the ranger Moore, Scully, and Mulder react to sunrise is like after a night in the a zombie film. Humphreys is unsurprisingly unlikable (security for a major company being lampshaded in the XFiles?

Noooo.

) I wish Spinney, an eco-activist/terrorist, had been fleshed out more.

 Scully seemed to be dealing with her discomfort with being possibly devoured by quarantine-worthy carnivorous CGI monsters by spouting science trivia in a slightly more overt way usual. (It is still rather more graceful than I would have done.) Darkness Falls also continues the trend that started in "Fire"*(S1e12) [in between the sexual tension fest]. Scully is forced to not only come to terms with increasingly apparent corruption in government, but also the fact that the world may be spookier than she had ever imagined.

I'm definitely going to re-watch this episode when I am in less pain.
