if I may say. I went vegan about 2 months ago (after a slow transition of phasing meat out over the last few months) and every time I crave meat again I try an Impossible product and it always blows me away. ppl argue that mock meats are expensive but tbh w how expensive everything is, I find the prices comparable. I don't rlly get how more ppl aren't vegan when there are mock meats of such high quality + for the same price as animal products, AND w the bonus of not killing anything I'm the process
Congratulations on your transition to veganism, anon! Sounds like you’re finding it very manageable so far which is great; and the early months are the toughest bit.
Impossible and beyond meat products do tend to be very expensive, but they’re not the only alternative. There are some great faux meat products here in the UK that are similarly priced or cheaper than mid-range beef or chicken is. We have so many options available in so many countries now, it’s a different world than it was even ten years ago.
These kind of products aren’t available everywhere, but where they are, they’re an amazing meat replacement and most people find them so close to the real thing that you can barely even tell it isn’t meat when it is cooked right. The barrier is a mental rather than anything to do with taste, some people are just wholly opposed to faux meat as a concept.
I find that these kinds of people often just don’t think of food as a moral issue at all, which I’ve always found incredibly odd. Unique among all our consumer decisions, people often just don’t apply morality to food at all. That’s how you get questions like: “why would I buy this processed rubbish instead of real meat?” despite it usually being healthier, far more sustainable and certainly more ethical, so it’s a question that answers itself.
