you didn’t have the right to be jealous anymore.
not when his arms were tenderly wrapped around her figure, and he looked at her with all the love in the world. it wouldn’t be fair to him.
you felt like you were intruding in on an intimate moment the second you stumbled through the door- with caleb's shirt off and her head resting on his large chest. the words slipped out before you could stop them, “what’re you doing ‘leb?”
his head raised up at the sound of your voice, “skin-to-skin contact. the doctor said it would be good for her.”
your eyes travel down until they land on her. as crazy as it was, you were jealous of your baby. not real jealousy, but more so you wished you could be laying on caleb’s chest too.
the sight in front of you was endearing, watching caleb hold her closely to his chest; she was so small that she could fit snugly into the palm of his hand, that or his hand was simply too big. as much as your heart swelled with love, you couldn’t help the creeping bits of green envy bubbling underneath.
caleb was glowing, maybe the glow of a new dad, or maybe it was because of the warm glow of the lamp, it didn’t matter in the end. the urge to snuggle up to his big body was becoming bigger and bigger by the second.
you settled down on the edge of the bed, next to where he was laying against the headboard, “don’t you think it’s time we put her to bed? it’s getting late.” you placed your hand on top of his, which rested gently on your daughters back.
he sighs, you can make out the small hints of disappointment, the reluctance to depart is evident as he hands her to you with hesitation. you take her gently and place her in her crib.
without sparing a moment, you find your way onto caleb's body, head nuzzling against his chest, where your daughters head once was moments ago. you sigh in content as his warm hand glides up and down your back.
“someone else wanted skin-to-skin contact?” he gently muses.
you huff but can’t deny the truth behind his words. placing a chaste kiss to his sternum you let out a “maybe,”
the warmth of his large hand spreads throughout your body, leaving slight tingles in its wake. the weight of his hand on your back gently lulls you to sleep, along with the plushness of his chest which your head rests on. the last thought that runs through your head before you sleep is spending time with your beloved husband and baby when you wake up in the morning.
