Kunst van het Samenwerken

This is a network, a collaboration. 5 separate bottles, connected together, creating a whole. Each with unique content. All connected to the center, the focus point.

‘Kunst van het Samenwerken’ works perfectly together with the sun, casting beautiful shadows on the floor, giving the artwork a whole new dimension. The different content in each bottle gives them a different shadow.  

Alltogether, ‘Kunst van het Samenwerken’ shows the beauty of collaboration and external influences.

I started this artwork by thinking about collaboration. What is collaboration? What does it mean to me, as an artist? What difficulties do you face when you collaborate? I have written the answers to these questions down and reflected on my personal view on collaboration. To me, collaboration is not always easy, because of the different background, cultures, ways of working, differences in motivation, and so on. But that’s a beautiful thing, because these differences create beautiful discussions, leading to better understanding of each other and leading to a better understanding of the world. Putting together different people from different backgrounds results in the most interesting creations.

To me and a few of my friends, collaboration has a few keywords: Transparency, balance, openness, trust, respect, improvising, perspective and adapting. These keywords where in the back of my head, while working on my final ‘poster’. During the process of making this piece of art, I just started playing around (improvising). I tried to use material that were somehow related to the keywords. For example, I used glass bottles because of the transparency. I could fill the bottles with different things, symbolizing personalities or cultures. While I was playing with my materials, I unconsciously created a network just by linking the bottles to each other. I tried to make a central focus point because in a collaboration, you have the project as the central point.

I ended up with this interesting creation of bottles, filled with random things, and just left it on my floor for a while to give myself some time reflect on the process I just went through. After about half an hour I looked behind me and saw the beautiful shadows that were casted from my creation. The sun collaborated with me by giving me this unexpected result, making me look at it from a different perspective.

Because collaboration is about different perspectives, I can’t wait to hear from other people what they think or feel when they look at my artwork. I’m curious if something or someone else will give a new perspective to my creation, like the sun did. What will happen if it rains? Or if you would place it in a different context? My artwork is open to everyone’s interpretation.
