I’d like to think that canonically Marco from one piece has died at least three times.

Why do I think this? because bro has gone through at least three design changes before we meet him in Wano again after the two year time skip. 

Every time he’s died and returned, he’s gotten marginally hotter. Wano being his hottest form yet.

He also obviously with each rebirth becomes stronger and stronger.

Which is why he was able to take on Kizaru during marineford.

It also makes his strength earned rather than given because he’s had to die in order to become stronger. 

(Don’t ask me why then in the flashbacks hes blonde…)

One Piece Prompt #1

Marco the Phoenix has been alive for longer than most realize. When Whitebeard’s health takes a drastic down turn, the Captain calls a meeting between his Commanders.

Whitebeard asks that the Commanders be completely honest with each other. Knowing he won’t be alive for much longer, he wants the assurance that they will be able to support each other no matter what secrets they’ve been keeping.

a.) Marco could choose to continue lying, either not ready or willing to divulge his secrets. Eventually, the guilt of lying to his dying Captain could prompt him to confess to Whitebeard and soon after the other Commanders.

b.) Though Marco’s long lifespan is known to Whitebeard, Marco kept a different secret from his Captain. Whitebeard is actually a descendant of his.

Marco has no choice, he wishes he’d never have to call on such an old, and honestly retired friend of his, one that helped him a long time ago and he promised he wouldn’t ever ask of it again

Breaching Wano’s borders was the easy part, the hard part was figuring out where his aid was needed the most

The sky hangs low and overcast with unnatural cloud formations swirling into dense, dark walls of sleet rain and thunder

High above it all he can see Onigashima floating ominously where the black coils of Kaido’s mythical Rayquaza snarls and seethes above

So he starts with the obvious, intercept Big Mom’s reinforcements and, if possible send them packing. He’s not certain of the details nor firepower of the reinforcements, only that Wano wouldn’t survive the onslaught
