Gotham is a cartoon to me
I really love that Oswald in Gotham develops paternal affection towards a boy who: - is disabled, like him - craves enough power to be untouchable and then some, but also paradoxically craves love, like him - has a bird name ("Martin")
And the fact that he has that kind of relationship in and of itself. For one, the famously devoted fatherhood of male emperor penguins. For two, it makes sense for someone obsessed with his own legacy that he would want an heir. For three, he is trying to be someone else's Fish Mooney, in part as an affirmation for himself; as Robin Lord Taylor remarked in an interview, Oswald truly had genuine affection for Fish.
