Posting the beginning to my Queerplatonic Ed/Lee Puppy Play fic because I like what I've written but I ran out of steam and don't really know how to continue it.
Ed could admit that the beginning of his friendship with Lee was rocky; at least on his part. He had been a bit jealous. Seeing the new medical examiner gain all of the respect and recognition from his coworkers that he had been working towards for years had been a major blow to his self-esteem. He had been stilted and cold to her at first, worried about how she would treat him as his superior, but as they began to talk they developed a mutual respect that quickly grew into friendship. Ed had been surprised at how fast they clicked, but in hindsight it was obvious why they had.
They were both excitable people, happy to babble about anything and everything that caught their attention. Even when elbow-deep in a corpse they chatted the hours away. There were some days where they hesitated to finish their work, giving themselves more time to talk to each other before the clock ended their shifts. It didn't take long for a bottle of wine, a coffee table full of snacks, and a gory murder-mystery on the TV to become their weekend routine.
One lazy Sunday, one glass of wine turned into two, then three as they binged the latest indie horror films. They giggled at the cheesy special effects as two of the characters were caught by the slasher.
"Are you sure this isn't a comedy?" Lee snickered.
"I was pretty sure it was just a horror film when I watched the trailers, but that role play scene had to be for comedic effect," Ed answered.
Lee shook her head, "I know that puppy play is a real thing, but that was way too awkward for me to believe that they were actually into that. That poor woman did not want to play fetch."
Ed burst into a fit of giggles, "She was so upset when he threw that ball!"
"And she was on all fours, that must've hurt her knees. There were so many better ways to do that," Lee said.
Ed glanced at her, curious, "What do you mean?"
"Here," she grabbed the bowl of popcorn off the coffee table, setting it in her lap and facing him on the other side of the couch, "Open your mouth."
Ed's eyebrows shot up his forehead, "Open my mouth?"
"Just do it, catch!" She tossed the popcorn kernel at him, but her aim was slightly off and Ed wasn't quick enough to catch it. The piece of popcorn bounced off his cheek and onto the couch. Lee giggled, "C'mon, we can do it. Catch!"
It took a few tries but eventually, despite their tipsy coordination, Ed caught a piece of popcorn in his mouth. They both laughed and cheered at their success.
"Yes, good boy!" Lee praised.
Ed felt his face flush and his heart skip a beat, but before he could fully process why Lee was tossing more popcorn kernels at him. Each time he caught one Lee praised him. When Ed managed to catch three pieces in a row, she reached over the couch to run her fingers through his hair.
"Such a good boy!" Lee said, bringing her other hand up to cradle Ed's face. "Who's my good boy? Who's my good boy? Yes you are, yes you are!" Ed leaned his face into her hand, soaking up the warmth as she stroked her thumb over his cheek. He let out a hum of appreciation when she scratched at his scalp and something clicked inside of him. He liked this.
When Ed opened his eyes (that he didn't remember closing) he saw Lee smiling down at him. He froze on the spot, unsure of what to do. He tried to speak but nothing came out. Lee just grinned with a mischievous glint in her eye, "I can work with this."
~ Gotham Knights
Barbara was part of the family before she dated Dick, and she will forever be part of the family, even if she isn't dating Dick.
Anyway, "unwilling" enablers?!?! These two are making themselves the victims of how they raised Bruce. And if they had to do it again, they would do it differently, not for Bruce, but for themselves. Alfred dreams of a version of Bruce that is "normal", something he does in multiple comics. It's not about what Bruce wants, what a happy life looks like for Bruce, it's about him fitting the mold.
Also, Leslie has no issue being mad at Bruce for how he treated Bane, but she has no issue when Alfred is the one calling the man a monster and wanting him out of Bruce's life. Bruce is the one that got his back broken by Bane, but he is not allowed to be angry at Bane, but they can.
