just a rewrite, for anyone who was as frustrated with the way that Caleb’s card turned out. Is it perfect? No, but I had to deal with the hand I was dealt, unfortunately. So. Here’s to salvaging what I could 🙂‍↕️

I’m condensing it here, I swear I have this a lot more thought out and nuanced but.

Caleb and MC met when they were young. Caleb saved her life (to his expense), and their bond strengthened. It came to a point wherein MC had appointed him her retainer— her closest person. When it came to it, she sent him in her stead to attend the military academy as a neutral representative of the empire. They severed contact during this time, he returns as the Glory Federation's High Marshal; someone against the empire and someone who betrayed her. Everything is tense, although, she still needs to broker peace and with the Federation, so... She selects him for this dance, and as a stepping stone to her fate; the throne.
