Summary: small gifts you’d give and how they’d react. How they’d react if you apologized for a gift being small
Authors note: I had a little bit of a struggle grasping Steve and Pony’s character 😔 I’m sorry. I also don’t write any romantic stuff for Ponyboy. Reader is written as a sibling or gang member for Ponyboy’s headcanons, all the other characters’ headcanons are romantic
Johnny Cade
• The first time you gave him a gift, he was a bit suspicious. He was especially suspicious if you happened to be a soc. He hadn’t been sure if you’d had some sort of angle
• This boy loves anything you give him, His parents never bothered with gifts even the few times they could afford it, and gifts often came small and few on the greaser side of town
• Get him things like the fancier cigarettes, hair grease, a good lighter. Thrift a warmer jacket for him
• You once got him a lighter with his and your initials carved into it. It’s always in his pocket, the only one he ever uses
• He likes to hold onto the lighter in his pocket when he’s missing you
• He normally don’t like the initiate affection, so you probably won’t get a kiss, but he’ll hold your hand or hook your pinkies together. Being two queer boys in the 60’s, it wouldn’t be safe to initiate anything out in public anyway. He’ll shift closer to you on the couch if you’re in the Curtis house
• If you ever apologies for not being able to get anything bigger? He stares at you for a moment before saying he likes it and what are you talking about??
Dallas Winston
• He likes to act like he’s too tough to care when really, he’s got as much experience in receiving gifts as Johnny
• Patch up some of his clothes. Cloths get pretty torn up in a bad fight with a soc, and that sort of labor can be a great gift
• Steal a new blade for him, maybe even steal one from a soc as a trophy from a fight for him
• If he really appreciated it, he may steal something in return for you. But god forbid you act too excited for his liking, he’d blame you if anyone thought he went soft
• If you ever try apologizing for a gift being small, he’ll give you’d a look and tell you to shut up. He’s not the type to try to comfort you or something, but he’ll shut that down really quick
Darrell Curtis
• He appreciates most things you’d get him. He understands having a hard time scraping up the funds to buy gifts
• You once got him a few nice shirts you’d thrifts, and he’d been over the moon. He didn’t often get himself clothes due to the fact he was more focused in keeping his brothers alive. Practical gifts are the best type of gift when you’re poor
• If you drew him a picture? It’s hung up somewhere in his room
• Money is often tight in the Curtis home, but he’d have other ways to show his appreciation
• You’d likely get a “thank you”, and a kiss on the temple or lips
• Darrel is used to having to be the stern one in the house, so he’d shut it down fast if you ever apologized for getting something you thought was too small
• Pack that man lunch before he leaves for work, he adores it
Two-Bit Mathews
• He may tease you, but he appreciates it. He’s just so used to resorting to humor
• Steal a little Mickey figure or some stickers of the characters and he’ll rave about it for the next week
• He’ll definitely steal something for you in return
• You’re gonna get such an over the top kiss, purely so he can hear you laugh.
• He doesn’t get serious often, but he’ll get a little serious if you try to apologize for a gift being small
• If he’s drunk when you give something to him, he’s even more excited. He’s inebriatedly peppering you in wet kisses, he’ll have rubbed off the stench of his beer onto you
• If he’s too drunk, he may forgot that it’s not safe for two guys to be so affectionate out in the open, so you may have to get him off of you before people start to notice
Steve Randle
• You got him a miniature model of a car, one that you’d had to sneak into the Soc side of town to get from one of their snooty gas stations.
• He kissed you so hard when you gave it to him
• That toy car is treated like treasure
• If you ever tried to apologize that he wasn’t something bigger? He’s making it a point to brag about the gift to anyone in the gang who’ll listen, his cockiness is put to good use
Sodapop Curtis
• He loves it, he loves you. Soda is a certified lover boy. Whatever his boyfriend gets him, he will adore
• You found a collectible cap of a soda bottle that had been from a promotional thing once, someone must have dropped it. That man raved when you gave it to him, telling him that it reminded you of him
• If you’re somewhere where no one outside the gang will see, you’re getting your face covered in kisses
• Your getting pulled into a tight hug, maybe turned play-fight
• If you dare apologize that it’s small? He’s telling you how much he loves it and kisses you to shut you up
Ponyboy Curtis
• He appreciates it, but he’s also acting like a typical moody 14 year old
• If you give him some hand me downs? Well, it’s nice to get new clothes, but he’ll huff about to try to look tough
• You stole a book for him once and you could have sworn you were his favorite sibling/member of the gang for almost a month
• If you try to apologize, you’re getting judgy look
