昨年の夏、仕事で履かせてもらえる機会があったブーツ、Patagonia Foot Tractor Wading Boots Aluminum Bar (Built By Danner)。

新品なのに足を入れた瞬間から分かるフィット感。そしてスピード・レーシング・システムと呼ばれるらしいのだが、シューレースを引くと全体に上手くテンションが掛かり、自分の足型に染まる。

アルミバーには前作から惚れていた。今回からパターンが変わり、地面との設置角度が更に安定しそう。前作は過去一度アルミバーを交換し2シーズン使い込んだが、遂にアッパー部がボロボロに。昨年の夏から、新作を買う！と決め込んで、コツコツと貯金をしてきた。ウェーディングシューズを買う！と思うと高く感じるから、ダナーのブーツを買うんだと、自己暗示をかけた。

前作は9インチ。寒冷期など、厚めのソックスを履く際に窮屈感を感じていたので今回は1サイズ上げて10インチ。

前作とも色んな所に旅に出て、色んなフィールドの映像を一緒に写し撮って来た。ポートランドの魂が入った新たなブーツとどんな所に行き、思い出を紡いでいくのか楽しみだ。

"The last pair you’ll ever need."

これが本当に最後の１足になるかは分からない。

サスティナブルである事は理想であり現実としては不可能なのかも知れないけど、その理念を掲げ追求し、実際に行動するという事は、ただそれだけで素晴らしく、共感する。

スペアのアルミバーとシューレース。前作の感覚で言うと、これで私のペースなら2シーズンは安心のはず。あとはアッパー部分の傷み具合ではあるけれど、それはいずれ修理に出せる。

「消耗品」ばかりの世の中で、傷の一つ一つにストーリーができることを楽しめるギアがある事は、幸せだ。僕が50歳になった時、このブーツはどんな老練な姿を見せてくれるのか。

そう思うと「価格」と言うものの価値について自分なりに納得がいく。

昨年待ちきれずシムスのフラットスニーカーを買ったので、TOKYO FLATはしばらくこれ。これからはこの二足でフィールドを歩き、思い出を紡ぐ。まもなく、本格的な春が来る。
