oh you KNOW he sucked in his own way...
he was generally. quite absent in his kids' lives. like he was THERE. but not particularly emotionally avalible. he also played favorites. i mean, imagine your sister just died and your parents divorced because your father wanted her and not you.
he was aware of the abuse in the afton house, and aware that william's alcoholism was impacting the kids (mike taking over as a father because william would often come home late and drunk, thus unable to take care of the kids properly) but never stepped in as support. he only ever really helped william without being directly asked by rhe kids (mike had too much shame and had been told by william that other people didn't need to know about family business. he took it literally)
after he decked william in the face he kinda just. vanished. hundreds of missed calls from michael BEGGING for him to come back. that his father's missing and he doesn't know if he can take it anymore.
and when he finally contacts mike and it's just to put him in a death trap. fucked up!!!
