What if the Wild's era Rito are actually the Fokka and Fokkeru from Zelda II: Adventure of Link, whom as a reminder are NOT evil, but the King's appointed guardians of the Triforce of courage?
That is an extremely good theory! I think I'll save this week's headcanon post until next week so I can put the spotlight on this. Which makes this an honorary...

I had already come to the conclusion that Rito likely existed before and separately from the Wind Waker Rito. So the Fokka/Fokkeru being related to the Rito who were loyal to the king during an era of prosperity makes so much sense!
Now the real question is: Can Rito spit fire like a Fokkeru or is that some kind of enchantment or biology that make Fokkeru special?
They both appear to be somewhat altered from both the other Rito we've seen and from each other.
That all of the Palace enemies are guardians from long ago is kind of insane to me. Are they undead? In a magical stasis? Are they unaware of time passing around them, or are they acutely aware of the decades and centuries as they pass? And I can't forget about the king's weird chimeras. Are those ethical? Did they have to do a bunch of weird experiments to make those or are they a Triforce wish?
The Encyclopedia (which I take with a handful of salt) says the Fokka were bred from birds by the king to guard the Great Palace. Meanwhile, a Fokkeru is "a bird soldier bred from flame." Yeah, that doesn't sound ethical to me. And there's the Thunderbird and all the others to consider as well. I'll leave it up to interpretation if the reader thinks the Encyclopedia is making stuff up or not, but either way, I think the Rito would be a good starting point for whatever the process was to arrive at these guardsmen.
It's not the first time the royal family had their hands in that kind of stuff. The species of creature you take the ball and chain from in Twilight Princess might also be the result of experimentation. Zeltik made an interesting video about that theory.
I hate to think of the dark side of the royal family that I associate so heavily with Ocarina of Time rearing its head during the Golden Era of Hyrule, but I keep coming back to it.
I digress.
Fokka/Fokkeru being Rito. I think it's quite likely that even if they aren't literal Rito, they are closely related. I hope that they are literal Rito instead of something darker, but we will probably never know for sure.
What are your guys' thoughts?
Feel free to send me more asks like this. This was awesome!
Aghanim, Captain Arjuna and his men escorted Princess Zelda down the stone halls of the castle dungeon. Zelda looked into the cell as they passed by most where empty, but a few held inmates. she remembered when her father had passed judgment on them for their crimes against the kingdom. many of them where Hylian but a few where from other races in Hyrule like Mulluni the Rito, leader of the Fokka a militant group of Rito who apposed the Rito tribe's chose of joining the Kingdom of Hyrule. they hid in the caves in the Hebra Mountains. Mulluni had tried to assassinate the King and Bizlahi the Rito chief during their peace talks at Rito Village. "Well look who has fallen from grace." Mulluni mockingly yelled as She passed his cell garbing the attention of the other inmates. "What did you do Princess? Break your father's Scepter?" he and the others laughed as Zelda tried to hid her shame. Arjuna kicked Mulluni's cell door "Shut Up Mulluni!" Mulluni held up his wing in a mockingly sorry look "Well Excuse me Princess, I didn't mean to offend you." he jeered Zelda Glanced up at Aghanim his face was stern though he said nothing. as they turned the corner Zelda could hear Mulluni lead the other prisioners as they sang the Hyilan National Anthem but it's Lyrics changed to mock the princess plight.
I had been struggling to figure out this scene for a while. it takes place after Impa was sent to the Dark World as the Sixth Maiden and Link has Heard Zelda's Call for help before he leave's his House. And it come before Link talks to the Guards on the Road. The Scene is meant to get Zelda down from Aghanim's Tower to the Dungeon. But I couldn't figure what do. and one day while I was in the Chick-Fli-a Parking lot I got this Idea and immediately began to write it down along with a conversation scene Where Aghanim tells Zelda that even her father is under his Spell and a scene where Aghanim and the King hear from a guard that Link has taken Zelda.
the Names Mulluni and Bizlahi comes from a Zelda Name generator for Rito. and are hold named for now. I personally believe the Rito have always existed even before their appearance in Wind Waker as the Fokka a lost enemy from Adventure of Link who appear in the Great Palace, and look very similar to the Rito in Breath of the Wild. and the way Revali acts like a jerk to Link and how he's a loner in a cutscene from Age of Calamity is how I'm going to show the Rito in my Fan Fiction's a group of bird's who keep to themselves and don't get along with Hylian's. and the Rito may have existed even before Ocarina of Time. their is a mural in Twilight Princess' Hyrule Castle that show's the Young Link meeting with Rito like people.
