Timeless: Cafe By The Ruins

Café By The Ruins claims to be the remains of the gracious homes of Phelps Whitmarsh, the first governor of Baguio City. The house was built very early in the last century and destroyed in World War II.

It is certainly the most unique restaurant in Baguio City in structure, menu, and philosophy. The ruins are a stretch of stone wall across the wall across the street of Baguio city Hall, relic of the last Governor General. Hanging plants, pieces of folk art and craft and artwork by Baguio artists emphasize the soul of this café. The restaurant was closed during the 1990 earthquake, but speed opened to run a soup kitchen that fed thousands.

The menu is designed to feature natural and local ingredients of the region, to purvey vegetables and fruits in their best season and to provide vegetarians some options. The food reflects the ecology and rhythm of Baguio City and Cordilleras. It is fresh, representing the best of the day’s market; it is home cooked and reflects vision of native tradition of health.

Café by the Ruins is pleased to present varieties of mountain rice, moscovado   sugar, fresh carabao milk, and cheeses, honey, pure cacao, upland coffee, etc.— all the proud product of the country.

The ambiance is neither cheap nor expensive, but overall it is clean and comfortable. Ruin’s iced tea is definitely a “must try”. It comes with a shot of honey, it tasted bland - neither sweetness nor a bit sourness as expected on iced tea.  The tastes were getting better and better until the last drop was drunk.

The various types of bread are baked fresh, just like in an old-neighbourhood bakery with its own signature bread. Customers can choose to Eat indoor or outdoor. Price is reasonable for the food and Staffs were attentive, and service

From its Cordillera inspired menu to the restaurant’s bullet mark laden walls, this wonderful place serves as a memory of the how the venue was once a garden theatre.

Breakfast is served! Some call it the most important meal of the day, we call it delicious. While @arcadiasteak might be best known as a modern steakhouse in the incredible portfolio of @chefmichaelmina the fact that the restaurant is located in a hotel, the @sanjosemarriott means they offer breakfast as well. This croque madame required a knife and fork to eat. So many quality ingredients tied together to make bite after perfect bite. The mornay sauce (essentially bechamel with gruyere cheese melted in) was so delicious we envisioned eating our way out of a bathtub full of the stuff. One of the challenges in Downtown San Jose can be the relatively low number of great breakfast spots. Bay Area favorite @cremacoffee.co has opened another location just a few blocks up the Alameda from its original (1202 The Alameda). The new space is larger, has onsite parking and an expanded menu. For those of you that have been eager to try one of the Mills Crepes cakes from @antonpatisserie.sv you can order individual slices here! We got adventurous with the delicious (and healthy) Hokkaido Milk Mille Crepe which includes a dusting of activated charcoal...hence the healthy. First time dining at Beach Cabana @ Pasir Ris Town Park. 🌳🍳🍗🍲🥗Address: 96 Pasir Central S(519638) • We ordered the monster platter 😈 which includes a fish cutlet, lamb chop, chicken chop and pork chop; 2 fried eggs, a massive baked potato, fries and fresh salad. Perfect portion for the giants! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Additionally, the fish cutlet was fried to PERFECTION! Crispy on the outside; fresh and juicy on the inside (no kidding). Been some time since I've eaten such a good fish cutlet. This applies to the fried oyster as well! 🤤 As for the grilled parts, they were flavorful and was impeccably grilled. 🙌🏻😋💖 • We ordered Asian cuisine too. Such as fish head fried with bitter gourd, garlic fried kai lan, pig throttle bee hoon and my husband had to add on a spicy chicken chop with "garden" sides. Lol! • All the food were cooked with delectable flavours and I'm quite surprised that it's really affordable. 👍🏻💰 • Sth to take note though; the spicy chicken chop is REALLY FIREY~ 🔥🔥🔥 So be cautious with that. 😆 • Overall, we enjoyed our dinner for 5 and the laid back ambience by the fishing pond.
