Charity events weren’t anything new. Weston had spent what felt like his entire childhood following his mom around to various events. Even taking up a lavish lifestyle, his personality definitely showed his mother’s work. Still, he chose to enlist in the army instead. Since he returned, and got back on his feet, he spent most of his charitable donations and time helping veterans. He was fortunate, most were not. 

Tonight’s event was something, but he wasn’t sure what. Leaving Smith at home, his “service dog” for tonight was Harrison. Lincoln, his original date for the evening was no longer an option. He hadn’t told Harrison until the ride there. Last week the pair had a long conversation and a small fight about their relationship. He left, Weston stayed. 

Martha was beyond herself tonight. Camille was off making sure the food was set when their sons walked in. It had been known the second she saw Harrison next to him that Lincoln wasn’t coming, and he probably wouldn’t come to the next one. “Sweetie, he’s missed more than his fair share of events. I don’t think he’s right for you. What kind of man does that? I know, I know, he’s a doctor, and I’m happy for him. that’s a good job, he works hard, but you need someone who’s going to show up.” Martha noted a woman across the room. “I know you like men more but you’ve got to meet this beautiful young woman. I’ve worked with her parents for years. Come, come,” she pulled her son away, waving Harrison off. If the boys were here, she was sure Harper was somewhere not far behind.

Weston was about to protest when she walked away after pushing her son towards her. “Hey, sorry about her. My mother is....crazy,” he trailed, finally getting a good look at her.
