Sunflowers 🌻

Today on the way home, my wife and I were listening to my playlist that has both of the boys albums. I always play it on shuffle. Sunflower, Vol. 6 came on and she asked, "What's the meaning of this song?" And I tried to explain it as best I could. But when I got home, I decided to do some reading. I first assailed @alarrylarrie with my findings and I now present them here:

The growth phases of a sunflower are measured on something called the BBCH Scale. It assigns sunflowers nine phases of growth. The third phase is the stem of the flower growing taller. The sixth phase is when the sunflower actually -flowers-. Sunflower, Vol. 6 is Track Nine on Fine Line. Sunflowers is Track Three on How Did I Get Here.

The "Two Sunflowers Theory" asserts that, in addition to sunflowers being so named because they will physically move their faces to follow the sun, when the sun is absent, sunflowers will move so that they are facing each other.

Sunflowers have a circadian rhythm and they regulate that rhythm in response to the blue-light emitted by a light source. As mature adults, they are fixed to face east, but while they are still developing they will follow the sun from East to West and reorient themselves overnight to face East again in anticipation of the sunrise.

Each floret of a sunflower is oriented to the next by ratio of a Golden Angle (137.5 degrees, which added equals 16). The Fibonacci numbers that are created by these interlocking spirals have 39 spirals in one direction (heh) and 55 in the other (39+55=94)

Two versions of Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers series paintings are on permanent loan to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Speaking of Van Gogh -- Did you know he had a very torrid love affair with fellow artist Paul Gauguin that was often explosive and volatile and has been redefined and reclassified as a "professional friendship" over the years even though they lived together for a time? (That whole misconception, "van Gogh chopped off his ear over a girlfriend"? That was actually over Paul Gauguin).

Anyway, sunflowers are a very important part of this lore!

I have a literature doctorate. I have literally written a book about Shakespeare, disability studies, and film theory. So when a silly shifter romance series briefly becomes my entire personality, the #1 goddamn question I get is, "Isn't that beneath you?"

Short Answer: No, Fuck You.

Slightly longer answer: I spent eleven years (undergrad through to PhD) reading and deeply engaging with literature. I proved that I could run with the big dogs and I literally headbutted the leading edge of my field forward with my research and analysis. By the end of eleven years, I wasn't having fun anymore. I spent eleven years doing the intellectual, supposedly prestige reading with the western literary canon. I get AT LEAST that long to read and enjoy whatever the hell I want.

♤ Pile 1 

You will become very poetic when you'll be drunk. Slurring your words and then attacking someone with some African proverb which will make absolutely no sense. You will also have no filter and will give death stares to each and every person you dislike/hate. I just heard 'ew her nose is big' and then going up to that person and telling them their nose is big 💀. You might wander off to different places too. For example - you will start at one point and ask someone for directions and then come back the second time to the same person asking for the same directions. I also heard someone saying smth about 'chocolate fountains give happiness' (or is it just me?)😭

♤ Pile 2 

Ahh, this is my 'I'm gonna pass out' pile. You guys will turn very flirty. "Everybody is gorgeous, ugh" You will be all over the place. You might even start talking to random objects. Like sitting and having a full-blown gossip session with an empty chair. You will be all up in your head, thinking about god knows what. You will feel so light that you'll just go with the flow. Again, you will be imagining things or even start hallucinating if you're way too drunk. Once you're done with that, you'll pass out.

♤ Pile 3 

You will try to multitask and then drop everything because you don't want to do it anymore. You will feel so happy? If you're someone who is serious all the time, you'll be giggling when you're drunk. Everything will make you laugh. So carefree. You will completely let loose. You will also try to drive your way back home because you'll think 'i am not even that drunk'. (please don't do that). I am also seeing something about weed brownies. Despite how playful you can be when you're drunk, you can also become very short-tempered. Some of you might feel you're floating or the place where you are is magical lol.
