Attempting to learn to code in GDScript to make a video game and oh my god i feel like a pathetic wet creature baby trying to hobble its first wretched steps. I have the whole script written, that was no problem. I have a whole bunch of art assets painted, that was also no problem!!!! but the fucking coding!!!!!! the fucking coding and I am sort of making a soft persistent "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa" sound as I attempt to figure out how to keep this bitch from being able to run off the map when the tutorials aren't working???

i figured out how to give him a health stat and that took me like. hours. It's not displaying on the screen but i think he Has it. Who's to say, though. who's to fucking say

hi there! im omeal and im working on an undertale fangame called undertale echoes! it follows the story of a discarded vessel traveling different aus and helping (or hurting) those who live there! currently we have a pretty good team, however i am the only one coding the game, and i can't do it alone! SO! even if you have limited experience in coding, or even if you are brand new and want some experience, please dm me! I am coding in godot using gdscript, using github for sharing code and using discord as our main form of communication! so knowing the basics of godot and github is the main requirement (as well as being comfortable with talking on a discord server)! other than that, as long as you are a nice person, i would love to have you on the team!

UUUUUGH I HATE NOT USING LUA

I tried to recreate Source Engine player movement in Godot. It fucking sucks. WHAT THE FUCK IS ":="? IS "self" EVEN USEFUL? CAN I MAKE A FUNCTION NOT TIED TO AN OBJECT? WHY DO I NEED TO SPECIFY A VARIABLE CAN VARY? ISN'T THAT LIKE THE WHOLE POINT OF A VARIABLE?

I can't say I fully understand, but I understand a ton more than I did this morning. yay knowledge i guess

anyways if anyone knows how I can save and store the contents of a LineEdit and TextEdit node as saved data so it stays between closing and opening a program please help

sometimes when i find a tutorial on how to add something in my game, and the guy shows his code and its like twice as long and fancy as mine and has a bunch of other stuff i feel disappointed i my script and try and go like: its not about the size of your code its about how you use it! but then my code doesn't work...

unity sucks; use godot instead

we spent 9 hours starting this game jam in unity, here's what we learned about the engine:

don't do it

it will do different behaviour with the same code

really don't do it

and heres what we learned about godot in 2 hours:

you can get the thing actually working and more featured in a lot less time

i actually love gdscript

rust support is there but needs work

gdscript makes up for it <3

oh, and we also learned that developers like me shouldn't do art. seriously, we have an artist on the team just focus on the code lexi :p

I wrote a couple of lines in gdscript (the programming language for the Godot game engine) to start moving along the terrain. The relief was prepared in Blender. First-person view, WASD controls (a little later I’ll make a mobile version with touch controls)
