Skylar loves to color and finds it incredibly relaxing. Jaal doesn't understand the appeal at first, but then he tried it. So now people find them in the cargo bay coloring, and everyone else joins in once in a while.

I love this! What kind of things do they color? Does Skylar have some coloring books she brought from the Milky Way? Who’s the “best” at coloring? Can angara hold pencils?

Cora is once awakened in the middle of the night by music blasting from the cargo bay. When she investigates, it's Liam and Gemma having a dance party to "Ra Ra Rasputin", because they have an ongoing competition as to who knows the most old Earth songs.

Does anyone ever win this competition? What do the aliens think of this odd human behavior? What are Gemma’s and Liam’s favorite songs to dance to?

Fictober, Day Sixteen

“This is gonna be so much fun!"

Only Ryder would say that about what looked like a drop into utter darkness. "Uh, Pathfinder?" Cora backed away from the edge. "I don't think this is like the Remnant vaults. At least those had bottoms."

Peebee blew a raspberry. "So? Just go ahead and jump."

"And fall forever into -- whatever that is?" Why couldn't Vetra have lost the coin toss and had to be the adult on this mission? "Not that I'm stopping you."

"Good plan, 'cause you can't!" Ryder leapt off the edge, hooting as she passed out of sight.

Fictober 2018, Day Two

“People like you have no imagination.”

Cora shrank from Evfra's baleful look, but Ryder just kept grinning at him, like they were in on the galaxy's most hilarious secret joke.

"Imagination," said Evfra, the way Vetra said I've stepped in something soft and horrible. "I have no time for imagination, Pathfinder, and you well know why. Is there a reason why you felt the need to fight -- "

Ryder kept the thousand-watt smile in place while she dug around in her backpack. "For these." She let the fresh fruit tumble from her hands to Evfra's desk, then sauntered away.

4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?

I didn’t linger too long on the drama of the Ryder family background as the impetus for going to Andromeda -- I do headcanon that Alec was reluctant to involve Gemma in the planning, and may have intended to leave her behind for various reasons -- but the romance of exploration and adventure was fundamental to her character. 

She was fairly privileged growing up as well, with lots of money and social connections to augment her own talents, but she was off on a dig site when the Alec scandal hit, and missed most of the dust-up that followed. When she went to Andromeda, it was she had to explore.

18 and 19 for Gemma?

18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?

She and Jaal, completely by accident, manage to get her pregnant. Because their lives are such a question mark (and so dangerous), and because no one really knows how this happened (I have a lot of angaran headcanons about it), she makes the difficult decision to have the fetus placed in cryo-suspension until she actually has the time and emotional energy to figure out next steps. 

(It’s a boy. He’s wonderful.) 

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?

Gemma is just a ball of light and love wherever she goes. A little brash, a little cheeky, a little cocky, but full of kindness and selflessness. She just wants to help, which at times means she’s a little too focused on others and burns out, but she takes care of herself, too. 

She’s absolutely my healthiest OC, mentally and physically (she and Sirin were tied, but Sirin gets a bit more bruised during TVP), and I love that nothing can keep her down for long.
