While I appreciate intrepid James Bond Shakespearean actor British butler Alfred who's been a proper house keeper since the 1800'
Originally Alfred showing up for a job as a normal British man, and seeing Bruce and Dick living it up with no adult supervision has some untapped potential
There's my employer. He's a got the intellect of a soft hearted buffoon, but at least he's not doing dope all the live long day. And then there's Richard not Wayne. I think Bruce stole him from the mines.
Alfred sir not having his shit together Pennyworth who basically sent a telegraph to the American agency for trained servants job fullfilment
The random Gotham staffing firm that looks at a British name and thinks, hey I bet Bruce Wayne would get a kick out of someone called Pennyworth!
Alfred failing to mention he got no Nanny training. Just No cats please.
Dick seeing a fellow stage person and getting attached, just like that.
Alfred being mildly alarmed that Bruce has a random ass child, like its some Caribbean parrot that got abducted in to captivity.
Alfred trying to communicate in the indirect British way that: are you a kidnapped child being held for sex purposes. I will get you out if you need help. Smuggle you out to England.
Dick who's only good at understanding the dictionary / grammatical meaning and not obfuscating sensitive topics, thinks Alfred is worried about Dick being homesick and missing his family. Dick is very touched that Alfred would break character to make sure a younger cast member isn't overwhelmed.
Bruce watching this with amusement. Bruce is keeping Alfred now that he passed the sniff test.
