Gendered language is weird
Western culture being so determined to use gendered language is bizarre.
The moment we are born someone takes a look at our genitals and assigns us a pronoun.
From that time onwards we are referred to by that pronoun, so everyone can picture what is in our pants. From the moment we are born. Increasingly there are gender reveal parties to do this before we even escape the womb.
But,
From before we even have any real concept anything, we are taught to hide that part of our bodies. We must be modest and decent. We must not show those terrible parts of our bodies.
We hide that critical part for which our gender was assigned while showing it off in every conversation.
Our formal title, our first name, pronouns, clothing. Our lives are built around penis or vagina, the sacred part of our bodies we are not supposed to show anyone in any less than the most intimate of circumstances, yet the most casual interactions describe these body parts.
We are taught there is a huge difference between show and tell, but why are we telling at all?
So you know what to expect when you invite someone to share your bed? The vast majority of the people you meet aren't in that category (unless you're having a FAR more exciting time than me!) so why the advertising?
The dichotomy of language versus cultural standards is made all the more confusing with how we traditionally divide roles. If this was all so innate surely we wouldn't need rules to enforce them.
Control is penis v vagina, made socially acceptable by using he v she instead.
