ooh top 5/10 words in any language you know?? - @brushedbymelancholy :)
Top 5 things
I only know German and English fluently, but let's go...I am gonna force a German lesson down my followers throat because it's my native language:
Ohrwurm (literally translates to "earworm" but it basically is the feeling or sensation of having a song stuck in your head and I'm so mad that there is no English word for that)
Aufgeregt sein (when I put this in a translator it says "being excited" but I just don't agree because being excited is mainly a positive feeling when "aufgeregt sein" can also be a nervous not-positive-feeling and I always struggle in my fics finding an equivalent word for that feeling)
Schadenfreude (literally translates to "damage joy" but it's the feeling of pleasure of someone elses demise)
Mirabellen (translates to cherry plums and the first time I thought we had a prettier word for something in German than another language)
Wirrwarr (basically translates to "confusion", "mess" or "chaos", but I like "Wirrwarr" better and I wish I could use it in my fics)
German words: "20 Ein-Tassen-Portionskapseln"
= 20 one-cup(s)-portion-pods
Weltschmerz: a german word that means
"the depression that arises from comparing the world as it is to a hypothetical idealised world."
basically: its when you compare your current situation to a better, more ideal situation and then you feel angry or sad about that. i guarantee you that you've felt this at least once before in your life. whether it was because you felt left out with friends, lost a job opportunity, got a bad grade on a test, etc.
theres always that sense of "what if" or "could/ would".
this kind of feeling can bring you down and make you feel kinda depressed. so what do we do when we feel this?
we must remember to stay down to earth. stop fantasying about "could be" or "would be". take life as it is and work for more.
i HATE the fact that there isn't a specific verb & noun for "being silent/saying nothing" in english, it genuinely pisses me off so bad rn. bc in german you have the verb "schweigen" and the same word can also be the noun "Das Schweigen" and it's so useful!! AND I NEED IT SO BAD RN!! bc i don't wanna use "the silence" i CANT use "the silence" bc it's NOT silent, there's music playing in the scene, but they're not talking and i need a fucking noun for that. i hate english so much i'm going back to writing in german fuck this shit
Behold, a Klinkensplitter!
