Today, March 21st, is my character Adiel's birthday. He is a love interest (LI) from my game Romance The Backrooms. All the LIs are based on an emotion, and he is based around surprise!
Leader of the Backrooms Brotherhood, Adiel is on a mission to escape the backrooms with the guys he cares about. Then, you come along, putting a detour in his plans--he can't ignore when a person needs help, so he's determined to get you back to Earth in no time. As he does so, your feelings become entangled, and a friendship blossoms--could it be something more?
I mentioned it's also Glarence's day! He's the LI based on anger, a grump who at first doesn't want to help you get home, but grows to love you over time. His birthday is on February 29th, so it only occurs every Leap Year. On non-Leap Years (like this one), Adiel shares his birthday with Glarence so Mr. Grumpy can have a special day. Glarence pretends he doesn't care, but really, he's very grateful. 💚
If you want to check out Romance The Backrooms, you can play it here! There's even a special game for Glarence & Adiel called "The Backrooms Is In The Eye Of The Beholder". For more of their interactions, check out the "gladiel" tag. I have over 100 pages of side stories under the "romancethebackrooms" tag too!
Thanks for celebrating my boys' birthdays with me! We're currently working on revamping the Romance The Backrooms demo, so please look forward to the new version later this year!
P.S. I was determined to actually draw this whole thing myself, and not use stock images. I think the roses in the background turned out ok. It's roses because Adiel's birthday is on National Flower Day (the date suggestion was made by his VA, Khai Troung, for that reason!). Glarence gets black roses, and Adiel gets white ones.
24 Days of Gift-Giving: Eighteen Aches
Happy December, everyone!
So, @creativepromptsforwriting is doing a writing thing called “24 Days of Gift-Giving” where each day of December has a prompt, so I figured it would be fun to write something up for each prompt! Feel free to participate too, if you’d like! It could be a fun writing game!
Like usual, I will be doing these for the characters of my story Romance The Backrooms, a liminal space otome with 5 main love interests.
Today’s Prompt: Eighteen Aches (hurt/comfort dialogue prompts); “Please believe me, I will not leave you alone.”; “I care about you! Do you hear me?”;
Characters: Glarence & Adiel
Other Info: n/a
__________
“I don’t know why you even travel with me,” Glarence muttered. “The way I treat you, how angry I get sometimes—you must hate me.”
“I don’t hate you,” Adiel reassured him. He squeezed Glarence’s hand and said, “You were the first real person I met in the backrooms, the one who confirmed to me that I wasn’t alone. You won’t get rid of me that easily, Glarence.”
Glarence shook his head. “Nah, that’s not true,” he insisted. “You’re going to leave me alone someday. I just know it.”
“I won’t leave you alone—I promise,” Adiel told him. “Please, believe me, ok?” He reached out and cupped Glarence’s cheek. “I care about you. Do you hear me? I care about you.”
Glarence smiled and put his hand over Adiel’s. “Thanks,” he muttered. “I. . . I appreciate it.” Adiel smiled, and his hand retreated. “I’m glad, buddy. I’m glad.”
@creativepromptfills
Adiel asks Glarence a question.
I wrote a new Romance The Backrooms game for Velox Turbo 2!
Before RtB's' events, Glarence & Adiel traveled together, just the two of them. One night, before they rest, Adiel asks Glarence a curious question.

Whumptober Day 5: Sunburn (Romance The Backrooms)
(Posting this a day late again because of my late shift.)
Look, in case you couldn’t figure it out from June Of Doom & Whumptember, I like whump. So I’ll be participating in @whumptober when I have the time/energy to. I may use all of the day’s prompts, or I may use some of them. We’ll see what happens.
Like usual, I will be doing these for the characters of my story Romance The Backrooms, a liminal space otome with 5 main love interests. This is an original work, not fanfiction.
Enjoy!
(I also included the @fictober-event prompt today!)
Today’s Prompts: Sunburn, healing salve, “it’s a new day, let’s go”
Characters: Glarence & Adiel
Other Info: Basically the idea here is that Glarence & Adiel have just left Level 46. Adiel isn’t affected by climate in general, but Glarence is, hence the scenario below.
_________
“Damn sunburn,” Glarence muttered as he & Adiel rested in Level 293. “The heat in that level really burned me up. . .”
Adiel took off his backpack, ruffled through it, and pulled out a glass jar filled with a slimy substance. “Here, this might help,” he said to his friend. “I got it from Leon. Where does it hurt?”
“Um, my back,” Glarence said, turning around and taking off his shirt. “Can you see it?”
Adiel cringed upon seeing the wound. “Oh yeah, I see it. Here, I’ll apply the healing salva.”
He put some of the substance on his hand and gently rubbed it on Glarence’s back. Adiel couldn’t see it, but Glarence was blushing.
Once the salve was applied, Adiel put it back in his bag. “Let’s just rest here for a bit,” he said to Glarence, giving him a bottle of almond water from his bag. “I don’t want you to strain yourself.”
“Thanks,” Glarence said, accepting the water and drinking it.
Soon, Glarence started to feel tired, and he yawned, putting his head on Adiel’s shoulder. A few minutes later, he was asleep.
When he woke up, he blinked a few times and stretched. Adiel gave him a smile. “Morning, sleepyhead,” he said to Glarence.
“How long was I out? What time is it?” Glarence muttered.
“It’s a new day, I think,” Adiel replied. “Ready to go?”
“Yeah,” Glarence agreed.
And so, the two stood up and headed off.
Whumptober Day 2: Trust Issues (Romance The Backrooms)
Look, in case you couldn’t figure it out from June Of Doom & Whumptember, I like whump. So I’ll be participating in @whumptober when I have the time/energy to. I may use all of the day’s prompts, or I may use some of them. We’ll see what happens.
Like usual, I will be doing these for the characters of my story Romance The Backrooms, a liminal space otome with 5 main love interests. This is an original work, not fanfiction.
Enjoy!
(I also included the @fictober-event prompt today!)
Today’s Prompts: Trust Issues, amusement park, “it’s been a long time”
Characters: Glarence & Adiel
Other Info: When I saw the amusement park prompt, I looked into amusement park backrooms levels and found two interesting ones: Level 345, “Liminal Forest”, on the official backrooms wiki, and Level 999, “Karmaland Amusement Park”, on the unofficial one. In the end, I decided to go with Level 345 for this story.
The idea behind this is that it takes place during Glarence & Adiel’s early days of travelling together. They don’t fully trust each other yet, and it’s a little bit tense.
_________
“Where are we?” Adiel asked, looking around in confusion.
“Oh, great,” Glarence muttered, seeing the dilapidated amusement park up ahead. “We’re in ‘Happy Land’.”
“What’s that?” Adiel asked him.
“It resembles a human amusement park, but all of the staff, rides, and attractions are made up of things from your memories—the place creeps me out,” Glarence said. “Maybe we should go back, try to find a way to a different level—”
“Wait!” Adiel exclaimed. “Are there any attractions that have exits to the frontrooms?”
Glarence thought for a minute. “I think if you guess your weight correctly, you win an exit there—”
“Then we have to check it out!” Adiel exclaimed. “Come on!” He ran towards the entrance to the park.
“Exits don’t apply to entities, you moron!” Glarence shouted as he followed him. “They only apply to humans!”
“Well, it’s worth checking it out to see if that’s true or not, right?” Adiel replied with a laugh.
AU-gust in September #25: Scientists (Romance The Backrooms)
So, here’s the deal. I couldn’t participate in my beloved AU-gust event last month, because I was busy. So I thought, fuck it, I’ll just participate this month instead, because we as humans can do whatever we want, and screw the rules lmao! And that’s what I’m doing.
The event is “supposed” to be for fanfiction, but I want to write AUs for my game Romance The Backrooms, a liminal space otome with 5 main love interests, so I’m gonna do that instead. Like I said, screw the rules! X)
Since September has only 30 days, I’ll treat Day 31’s prompt as a Joker (aka a prompt I can switch out if I don’t like the day’s chosen prompt).
I also couldn’t resist using the @tropetember prompt! C: Here’s the tropetember prompts, if you want to take part in that event as well!
Today’s Prompt: Scientists, Unrequited Love
Characters: Adiel & Glarence
Other Info: The idea behind this AU is that Adiel & Glarence are two human scientists trying to make a breakthrough in chronometry (the study of time, Adiel’s field of study) & the multiverse/many worlds theory (in Glarence’s field of study, quantum physics). Adiel hears about the mythical “backrooms”, where time travel and multiple universes (the individual levels) seems to be possible. After reading many accounts of the place, he comes to the conclusion that if he & Glarence find the backrooms, they can find a wealth of scientific discovery. And so, he sets out to convince Glarence.
_________
“I’m telling you, Glarence, the backrooms could be the answer! It could provide everything we’ve been searching for!” Adiel exclaimed.
“Please,” Glarence scoffed. “You really expect me to believe that some myth you found in a few forum posts could provide real, scientific answers?”
“It’s not a myth—there are so many accounts of people in the backrooms that is has to be real!” Adiel exclaimed. “People have talked about meeting their past selves and entering rooms that hold objects from their past or future. And the place seems to consist of multiple universes that are somehow interconnected!” The expression on Adiel’s face was manic, thrilled, ecstatic. “If we’re able to find it, we could find a wealth of answers to our questions! We could make a breakthrough!”
Glarence paused. He was trying to find a tactful way to say that he thought the whole thing was bullshit. But he loved Adiel too much to shoot the whole thing down. So, he listened to these romantic feelings, and made his decision.
“Alright, I’m in,” Glarence said, trying to play along. “How do we get started?”
Adiel clapped his hands together in excitement. “First, we pack supplies. Then, we head to the abandoned warehouse downtown.
“I think that will be the best place to try to transport ourselves to the backrooms.”
AU-gust in September #9: Guardian (Romance The Backrooms)
I also saw the @tropetember event and its list of prompts, and got really inspired by the 5+1/3+1 for today, because I’ve never heard of that trope before. So I decided to write it!
I also included the @whumptember prompt “What did they do to you?” See their list of prompts here!
I definitely want to do more tropetember & whumptember prompts in these stories as I go, so if I can fit in the prompts, I will! C:
Today’s Prompts: Guardian (joker), 5+1/3+1, “What did they do to you?” (bloodied clothes)
Characters: Adiel & Glarence
Other Info: This is continuing from the demon/angel AU stories with Guardian Angel Glarence & Arch Demon Adiel.
_________
Three Times Adiel Cared, And One Time Glarence Cared Back
1.
“What did they do to you?!” Adiel exclaimed, appearing in front of Glarence as the guardian angel limped into an alley.
“I just got stabbed in my human form, it happens,” Glarence grunted, going against the wall and sliding to the ground, clutching his side. “It’s hard to concentrate, so this’ll take a while to heal. . .”
“Here, let me,” Adiel offered. “Move your hands.”
Glarence did, noticing that his hands were covered in blood. Adiel put his hands over the wound and closed his eyes. Soon, his hands were glowing, and Glarence could feel the demon’s unholy magic being sent into his body, closing up the gaping wound. Glarence wondered if he should resist this, but ultimately decided not to.
The pain in his side lessened until, finally, it was completely gone. Glarence lifted up his shirt, and saw that the wound had been fully healed. There wasn't even a scar.
“Thanks,” Glarence muttered.
Adiel smiled. “I’m just glad I was here to help.”
2.
“Ooof, someone’s sulking,” Adiel teased, walking up to Glarence in the church.
Glarence sighed. “What do you want?”
“I spotted you while I was walking by and figured you could use some cheering up,” Adiel replied with a smile. “Bad day?”
Glarence sighed. “Just humans doing what they do best: being stupid,” he muttered.
“Want to talk about it?”
Glarence hesitated, unsure as to whether he should open up to the demon. Then he thought, fuck it, and decided to talk.
“I try to guide the humans I oversee onto the correct path, but they just don’t want to do the right thing,” he said, frustrated. “I should be used to that by now—I’ve been watching over these bipedal idiots for thousands of years, for the Godhead’s sake! But they just keep surprising me in the worst ways.”
He groaned. “The human I’m watching right now has so much potential. He can be great! But he just keeps doing bad things. Fucking moron.”
Adiel put an arm around the angel and hugged him close. “Sounds tough,” he said comfortingly. “I know you’re doing everything you can. You’ve always excelled at that.”
Glarence knew he should resist the demon’s touch, but against his better judgement, he decided not to. He sighed. “Thanks.”
3.
“Oh great—you’re the guardian demon for this human?” Glarence asked, annoyed.
“That’s right,” Adiel said, giving the angel a wink. “Looks like the two of us are going to be working together.”
“We are not working together just because we’re attached to the same person,” Glarence snapped, folding his arms. “Don’t even go there.”
“Alright, if you insist,” Adiel said with a knowing smile. Then, his smile faded, and he leaned in to whisper into the angel’s ear. He said, “Look, I know how much emphasis heaven puts on numbers and results compared to hell, so . . . I’ll try not to make this to difficult for you, ok?”
Surprised, Glarence studied Adiel’s face as the demon retreated from his ear. The demon seemed sincere. . . Which was both a surprise and a relief.
“Thanks,” Glarence muttered.
Adiel nodded. “Hey, I know how strict heaven can be. It’s the least I can do for an old friend.”
Glarence looked at him in surprise. “We’re friends?” he asked.
Adiel shrugged. “What else would we be?”
Glarence didn’t really know how to answer that, so instead he walked away. “I’ll see you later,” he said to the demon. “Let’s talk again soon.”
4.
Glarence left the human’s bedroom as they slept. He wanted to explore the town, get to know the place a bit more. He always liked doing that when he was stationed in a new location.
As he was walking, a familiar figure caught his eye. It was Adiel, sitting on the roof of one of the houses. What was that devil doing here?
Invisible to the eyes of humans, he flew up to the roof and approached the demon. That’s when he saw the sadness on Adiel’s face. “You ok?” he asked, before he could stop himself.
Adiel turned to him in surprise. “Oh, it’s you,” the demon said with a small smile. “Hey, Glarence. . . I’m kind of having a rough night.”
Glarence sat down next to him on the roof. “Want to talk about it?” he asked.
“Really?” Adiel asked, sounding surprised.
“Y-You don’t have to sound shocked!” Glarence exclaimed, blushing. “You’ve always listened to me, so I figured I might as well listen to you for once! Geez. . .”
Adiel laughed. “Aww, you’re so cute when you’re angry like that.”
“Shut up,” Glarence muttered, folding his arms. “You want me to listen or not? I could just leave, you know—”
“No, don’t!” Adiel exclaimed. Clearing his throat, he said, “I mean, I’d appreciate having you as a listening ear.”
“Alright,” Glarence agreed. He awkwardly put an arm around the demon. “There, there?”
Adiel laughed. “Are you this bad at comforting humans, too?”
“I’m not used to it, ok?!” Glarence exclaimed, blushing again. “I’m trying my best!”
Adiel gave him a smile, and reached up, putting his hand on Glarence’s. “Thanks.”
Glarence turned away, trying to hide his smile. “Don’t mention it.”
