As Black Women we must not get caught up in identity politics. We are both Black AND Women. However, our unique experiences leaves us vulnerable to both sides of the oppression pendulum. Do not let those who do not walk in our shoes tell our narratives and dictate what we call our truths. Our plight isn’t just sexism and it isn’t just racism. Please reread that last statement especially the last three words.
Because trust and believe, Black = Male. Hence why social justice movements prioritize and revolve around Black Men even when it’s Black Women with the highest rates of intra-racial femicide, rape, sex trafficking, intimate partner violence etc. Yet the world is focused on Black MALE issues and adds Black Women as footnotes to Black Men’s experiences or garnished parsley to the Black man’s plight. We’ve been told quietly wait our turn because when Black men find their manhood then they’ll set Black Women free. But what’s freedom when Black women are generationally in debt or poor but Black Men who practice social mobility grab other men’s daughters to compliment their centerfold PR crafted White America approved image.
White Women = Female. White Women tell us our oppression is more than menstrual cramps that we need to stick together as women and like a stealthy thief in the night, their Historic Karen personality disorder appears in the most power shifting moments LIKE THE VOTING BOOTH. Women Empowerment on Twitter. STATUS QUO in the voting booth. NOTHING SAYS POWER SHIFT LIKE VOTING. White women feed Black women lip service about agency and liberation to sound progressive and edgy BECAUSE AS A COLLECTIVE WHITE WOMEN HAVE NO LIFE ALTERING SETBACKS. IN A SOCIETY THAT IS BUILT AROUND PRIORITIZING WHITE WOMEN, HER OPPRESSION IS NOT BEING SEEN AS GOOD AS THE BOYS. BLACK WOMEN’S PLIGHT IS BEING SEEN AS HUMAN RATHER THAN BEING USED AS AN OBJECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S GAIN TO OUR BLACK WOMEN DETRIMENT.
Just like Elena, WHITE WOMEN PLAY THEIR ROLE even if it’s the root of everyone’s insanity.
Our plight is uniquely different, insert intersectionality.
Black men have male-ness as a buffer to their oppression as Black. Hence BLACK = MAN. White Women have White-ness as a buffer to their oppression as Woman.Hence WOMAN = WHITE (reason why we cry about representation/inclusions/appropriation/diversity etc)
But we as Black Women don’t fit perfectly in a box of half oppression. Black Women are just happy to be in the room while Karen thinks she’s the apple of human history’s eye and Black men see her as preferred peach.

As Black Women we are often told that the smaller and nicer we are the better life is but in actually, we make it easier for others to typecast us in our own play.
