What’s excellent about all of the Grishaverse books is that they’re full of people learning to use Grisha powers in ways no one has thought of or implemented before. Sure the Darkling wanted them dependent on him, but he did actually want them to be powerful, and it’s wonderful to see all of them surpassing him and exploring more effective uses of their abilities as soon as he’s not standing in their way

Grisha/Zowa Powers Conjecture

Adults concept uses for Grisha and zowa powers, ideas below.

I'm brainstorming various ways Grisha and zowa might use their powers for things for non-combat uses in their relationships, with their partners/lovers, in the bedroom, etc.

Heartrenders/Healers/Tailors and Corporalki in general seem to have some fairly obvious go to's. Affecting a partner's heart rate or mood. Temporarily or more permanently affecting various body parts. Using healing after BDSM scenes. There are some avenues for non-consent that I am not going to explore, but am aware are possible with Heartrender powers especially.

Fabrikators have options open to them for crafting items for sexual purposes. I've seen some great fics with Jesper making and manipulating sex toys. The possibilities of creating custom items for yourself and your partner are fun. What might a Durast be able to do with metal toys or magnets, etc. What might an Alkemi be able to do with lube, potions, etc. Again, there's the avenue for something like a love potion, but, enh.

What about Etheralki? Squaller and Tidemakers and Inferni and such. I imagine there's lots of fun to be had with warm hands and being able to heat things up, literally. Maybe Squallers can hold their breath for longer periods of time? Can Tidemakers affect bodily fluids?

Alina's powers

I ship darklina don't get me wrong, I think it's a very twisted relationship which really could have been a way to bolster and develop Alina's character I'm taking a mixture of canon from the shows and books here - mostly the show - I like the darkling but let's take a second to reevaluate him, he is not entitled to Alina's powers in anyway.

I mentioned this in a previous post but I have to reiterate it here. Alina is an orphan who has never had any autonomy or anything to call her own. Her light is something which she is extremely possessive of and loves. It becomes something like a friend to her. It's there with her, it nourishes her (prevents her from wasting away) and it is something which she can finally call her own. The darkling is someone who she entrusts with this power. She knows he can call forth her light but chooses to let her help him and he violated that. I saw this post that said that if Alina had just let him engulf novya zem the war would have ended much sooner. That may be true but I'd like to remind people that for a long time she believed herself to be a normal person, the people there who are being engulfed and being turned by the darkling power is something she can relate to. Alina used to be a confrontational person but doesn't that anymore, I we see the contrast when she was younger when she punched the quarter master but she didn't punch the cook. When she seeks retribution she does it on her own terms hence why she punches the quarter master. Sorry off topic here but Alina has seen people more powerful than her use violence against people who have no ability to defend themselves. She related to the people in Novya Zemi. Her power which is something that can be used for good and gives her autonomy and self worth has been ripped away from her. The darkling didn't give her a chance to do things her way or even explore other alternatives or didn't even explain it to her. Just literally said do this or mal is dead. The darkling reduces her to the very thing she's terrified of: a thing. Her power is her own, no one is entitled to it

Thinking about that line “I never needed you “ Alina said and how we have all discussed how she did for better or worse but now I’m thinking about if her powers were never awoken.

What if she went through the rest of her life completely suppressing her powers? How long would she have lived?

From what we know in the books she was stick thin, didn’t have an appetite and got tired easily. I would also assume her immune system isn’t that great because she’s not taking care of herself. So how long before her body just shuts down?

I just realized something. The Grisha need to touch their hands first before they can manipulate anything in the show right? I wonder how it would be like for Adrik? I hope the following seasons (please we need more seasons 🥺) we explore the Grisha powers more. Like its levels of intensity, having knowledge on more than one Grisha abilities (like Genya being Corporalnik but also work with Materialniks from time to time), and how to manipulate them with and without the complete use of hands/arms.

Grisha Powers = Sexuality

Guys, I figured it out. Grisha powers are a metaphor for sexuality. Think about it:

Using Grisha powers tires out Grishas, but in the long term they are healthier for it. They become all . . . luminous after using it.

The way the powers are viewed by various countries. In Ravka it is an unfortunate necessity. Fjerda deems it unnatural. The Shu Han are trying to figure out how the hell it works. Kerch literally turns Grishas into prostitutes. Only in Novyi Zem is it seen as a positive, natural thing.

I’m going to say that Etherealki are heteros. See The Darkling and Alina, who are super attracted to each other even though hate it. The Darkling thinks Grisha powers should be used for particular purposes, not for frivolous reasons.

Corporalki are bis. See Nina (often shipped with Inej) and Sergei, a Corporalki that can hook up with a Etherealki, Marie.

Matherealki are gays/lesbians. This is why David shows no interest in Genya (who is bi, but maybe leaning toward lesbian?). Jesper is supposedly interested in girls, but I have never seen any evidence of it. He hides his Grisha power the way that some people hide their sexuality.

Alina is not gay but hides her literal sexuality as well as her metaphorical sexuality (Great job, Mal!). The Darkling at least encourages her to use her power, but only in the way that he wants her to.

The Grisha triology (I’m only halfway through) is about an old man trying to control a young girl’s Grisha power.
