Speech hangover is officially in full swing
Drama and Group Interpretation Conference today! S/o to my beautiful BHS team. We're going to do AMAZING today! ❤️❤️
So in speech we have this big event called Group Interpretation (GI) and we decided to do Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend this year and I'm really excited because holy crap our script it amazing and the book is flawless and ahhhhhghg.
Also, I'm playing Mrs. Patterson and I'm just excited I get to get a tree branch swung at my face and I also get tackled....yay!
Guess who advanced to final rounds at State!
Can't wait to see them rock The Fault in Our Stars once again. Begin preparing to cry at 8:30AM tomorrow morning starting...NOW!
Staaaaate!
I cried for most of the performance, because I knew what was going to happen. I held it together the best that I could, but...it wasn't just TFIOS. It was just feeling so incredibly proud of all of them, and wishing I could have been a part of it beyond an alum with a sister still in high school.
Their performance was absolutely beautiful. A lot had to be cut, obviously, to fit it into half an hour. Enough was left in the show to show Hazel and Augustus falling in love. And they may be in high school, with no "real, professional" training, but my Godric Gryffindor, the two playing Hazel and Augustus were better than most of the actors at my college.
Beyond that on TFIOS..."My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations."
I watched several shows today, though, not just my high school's. Another school did Toy Story, which was pretty awesome. I liked how accurately they depicted each character, but I think the directors could have done more with the story instead of being cute at the beginning and putting the Disney castle theme and Pixar lamp. But those aren't really the actor's choices.
Another show I saw was Tyranny on Trial: Stephenson vs. State. It was extremely intense, and shook up someone to the point of needing to be escorted out by some others after the show.
My old high school is taking their Group Interpretation piece AND Contest Play to State this weekend
I'm so incredibly proud of them for it, too. I still have yet to see either, but I am so excited to this weekend at U of I in Springfield.
For their Group Interpretation piece (for those who don't know what the heck I'm talking about, it is a stage adaptation of a book, using no props, levels, and cross-focus acting to pull it off) is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It wasn't until I heard they were doing it that I decided to finally give the book a try, and I fell in love with it all at once.
ANYWAYS...their GI took second place at sectionals, and advanced to State, which is this weekend. Maybe John Green will hear about it, maybe not. But I think it would be awesome if he did.
As for the contest play, Children of a Lesser God...I really don't know much about the play at all, besides that it involves sign language. It took second in sectionals, and is also advancing to State.
My favorite part about this show, though, has to do with one of the actors. I learned today that she is going to pursue a degree in acting and ASL (American Sign Language). To be that dedicated to something that you learned how to do for a play is freaking amazing.
Be prepared for more follow-up posts this weekend while I'm seeing shows at State!
I don't think I have ever been pissed off this much in my life. We were so much better than 6th place. Our GI was literally PERFECT, we worked our asses off for this. This is such bullshit. I feel like I'm being punk'd right now. THE WHOLE FUCKING ROOM WAS IN TEARS AND WE GOT SIXTH SERIOUSLY THESE JUDGES NEED TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES.
Conference
Yesterday was the SWSC Drama and Group Interp Festival at Lockport and holy shit balls am I proud of our cast. We had four All-Conference cast members and earned straight Superior ratings! We have a lot of rehearsal time this week and I know we're going to make the best of it. We're in a really great place, considering we ran 28:34ish yesterday and we ran 30:33 on Friday. I am just ecstatic to perform at Richards next Saturday and I am determined to go to State again.
Boy, it's a great week to be a Starcatcher. To Never Land!
