how do you keep track
So I will admit it
I am a data whore.
No I do not mean that i use insane amounts of data on my phone.
Data is useful. So many numbers surround getting fit (note, I do not say losing weight), your weight, BMI, Fat %, run times, sprint distances, waist bands, lbs bench pressed, leg pressed, miles biked, miles hiked, calories consumed, TYPE of calories consumed. Although I personally put more stock in some of those then others (I do not agree with BMI, although I admit is a good introductory way of looking at things), I can go crazy keeping track.
I mean I love numbers. Maybe it is the inner engineer in me, I am not sure, but As I have been starting to run again, I have been looking for the right way to track food and work outs for me.
I have heard of them all, Map my run/bike/hike, loose it, my fitness pal, fitbit, nike fuel band, jawbone, and even the cant go wrong with it Garmin GPS heart rate monitor (granted those are out of my curent budget range.
So, Which one is the best?
I am sure over the coming weeks ill experiment with more. I mostly use the "Map My" series because they are 1) free and 2)simple to use. I try to use my fitness pal, but I am just not that dedicated to logging it in my phone. One thing I know, is that different people have different needs and there is no right or wrong answer. I Even keep an old school excel spread sheet on some things, because, well, I learned excel for a reason, I might as well use it.
So Tumblr, how do you keep track?
Just registered for my first half marathon.
I'm literally shaking. excited. nervous. proud. idk. but im so ready to start training for this bad boy!
I woke up really early to watch my sister run a half marathon and id give you her URL but she exercises. She doesn't know what tumblr is.
The Half That Became a 5k
Back in February I was training for a half marathon and then started having foot pain about 3 weeks before the race. I knew I shouldn't push it so I dropped down to the 5k. Honestly, five minutes before the start of the race I was still debating attempting the half. Anyways, I ran the 5k and here is the only picture of me from the course. Both feet off the ground!
Wow !! I did it ! I’ve created my first Tumblr account ! I decided I need a place to post as much or as little as I need on this journey to being the best version of myself !
I’ve struggled with my weight since I was in my teens going back and forth, up and down. I’ve tried weight watchers before and have lost up to 30 lbs but I mess up, get frustrated and angry with myself and have found myself back at square one.
This time I’ve lost 30 lbs on my own and have re-committed to weight watchers to lose the remaining 45lbs.
What’s different this time ? I’m trying to remember that I’m not on a diet and I’m changing my eating habits.
I’ve also committed to running a half marathon in November of this year and that’s kept me motivated the last couple of months !
Getting the Lead Out!
This past weekend was the inaugural Galena Lead Rush Half Marathon. Inaugural is the key word here. This was the first year this race has been held, but that wasn't the only first. This was my husband's first half marathon. And the first half marathon for my friends Jenny and Skerney. It was also Kid Icarus' first half marathon and the first time I have run 13.1 miles while knocked up.
I am endlessly proud of my husband for achieving this goal. A year ago he would have told you how much he hated running. I still don't think he would call himself a RunNerd, but we have both really enjoyed training for this race together. Our friend Jenny got together with us every week for Extreme Exercise Tuesdays as well (so named because somehow they always turned into an adventure).
The photos are taken before during and after the race. We had a perfectly gorgeous day. The course was perfectly brutally hilly. The photo with the white fence and red trees was taken before the most surreal moment. We were just noticing how picturesque the scene was with the white fence, colorful trees, hills, barn...and a white horse came running up to the fence. It was like a scene from The Princess Bride or something. At least it wasn't an ROUS.
And you're welcome. That's in response to your inevitable thanks for not sharing photos of the four porta potties I visited during the race. I wonder how many times the pregnant Chicago Marathon finisher stopped at porta potties.
Finally, at this race, apparently the only appropriate songs to finish a race to are all Pit Bull songs. Bon Bon Bon Bon Bon
