David C. Sutherland's iron golem illustration from the AD&D Monster Manual seems to owe more than just a little inspiration to Ray Harryhausen's Thalos the giant bronze golem from Jason and the Argonauts, as does the gargantuan iron golem from the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon episode Beauty and the Bogbeast… and that rocks hard like heavy metal should, on THAC0 Thursday!!

@ray.harryhausen was one of the greatest and most influential special effects artists of all time. His version of the Medusa in 1981's The Clash of The Titans was as scary as she was impressive. I recall seeing the film as a kid and being totally knocked for six when that awful, evil looking snake woman slithered onto the screen.
