law x reader ^.^ (fever dream... idek whats going on) college AU!
you glanced over at law, but he was looking down at your book.
it wasn’t his fault, you had asked your crush to help you study. and here he was, helping you study.
“it’s going to work.. trust” she had a huge cheesy smile… it felt like your best friend was setting you up.
well nothing can help it no that you are here. legs almost touching. he was sharing your book, and you had grazed his arm when you passed it over to him.
“the half-life of uranium-286 is…” he looked up at you to repeat the information he had just read, but you didn’t hear a word he said.
lost in the thought of just what exactly you were doing here, law didn’t notice you hadn’t really heard him. staring down at your notebook of scribbles and crossed out equations, you felt destitute.
what if he didn’t even want to help you but you forced him here? what if you doodled something to show you were battling a crush? what if he thought you were dumb?
“hey .. did you get the half life written down?”
you dropped the pen you were halfheartedly holding.
“oh I’m sorry uh.. I didn’t get it down but I can’t really focus today so I think we should call it off for now.” you didn’t pick up the pen, and made shoddy eye contact with law. as much as you could manage.
“right, that’s fine. are you sure you even need help with this stuff? all your equations were right..”
“yeah it’s just the numbers that get tough for me, math isn’t my strong suit but I understand the formulas ya know?” you were packing up your things now and not looking at law, which he had noticed.
“it seems like it, what was your major again?” he was already packed up so law had opted to stare at you instead.
“history.”
“right, why are you still taking chemistry?”
“ya know.. gen eds”
you looked up at him with a smile, not too much not too little.
“I see. let me know when you want to reschedule.”
“sounds good, I’ll just let Bepo know?”
“I’ll give you my number. Bepo is unreliable.”
you tried not to smile too hard or laugh or do anything weird, just silently waiting for his preferred method of giving you the actual digits.
he held out a piece of paper with them scribbled on, his first and last name on top, pretty neatly printed on the scrap.
“oh perfect, I’ll just uh shoot you a text when I know what time..”
time for the awkward goodbye, you were so socially inept you usually made it weird in some way or shape.
you both started to talk at the same time, but you let Law go first, since he seemed to know what to say.
“if you wanna get food or something you can tell me, I think you’re beautiful- well I mean to say that you don’t need to pretend to need a tutor to see me. I’d prefer it if we do this the other way. okay I’ll see you around.”
Trafalgar Law.
you stared as he walked away, his hat covering his hair, his stature imposing, and a bag slung around his shoulder. somewhat in shock, you started to grab your things. going through the motions while you realize what just happened. after grabbing your annoying books and laptop you type out a text to Perona.
“okay…. u were right… i have no clue how but it worked … i dont think it was anything i did … perona im freaking out rn”
you looked up at the quiet and slightly full library work space, blinking and promptly leaving the building.
—————————
“okay there is no way you did nothing! you didn’t put on lipgloss or look him up and down or anything?” Perona seemed … confused more than anything.
“well no, I couldn’t even think when he sat right next to me! I thought he would take the opposite side of the table.. but he touched my arm, so I couldn’t focus or think or anything!” you spoke to perona as she took a big bite of her sandwich.
her eyes widened, “wait you did nothing.. he liked you before then!” she grabbed your hand, starting to squeeze it way to much.
“I don’t think he does.. we’ve only talked like 5 times!”
“it doesn’t matter! I liked you after one, he can like you after ‘like five’”, now she was mocking you.
“well , I’m too nervous to text him.. he’s so cool there’s no way” you quickly pulled out your phone (after breaking my free from the death grip Perona had on you) and found the contact you had already saved under “Law :3”.
“yes you can! just say ‘hey it’s me, I’m in love with you and I really think we can work, let me try tonight?’ that will make him run to you!” Perona had such a way with words.
you gave her a glare, but still typed ‘hi’ into the text box. looking down at your phone you felt no words come to mind, just a replay of what he had said to you.
“he called me beautiful…”
“because you are!! now tell him to… make a reservation for thursday or something!”
both of you snapped your heads to look at the person approaching your table, feeling like someone was staring.
who? none other than Shachi and Penguin.
two someones were staring.
“hello gentleman…” Perona spoke first, like she usually did.
“Perona, history nerd, greetings.” Shachi spoke first, as he usually did.
“we have heard some news from sir captain, and we are here…” they both turned to you, like they had rehearsed it, “to beg you!!! please please help us with history 327!” Penguin cried out,
both him and Shachi dropped to their knees, and help up their hands together.
“okay, do you wanna do it now?” you were always happy to help people study, especially your major.
“no! you two weirdos will get a response from the history nerd later! we need to mull it over. and, we know where to find you..” Perona stood up and forced them away, trying her best to be intimidating to the two men.
"i know that you don't care, thats why i care for you, but!" Perona stopped to hold your face as she stood above you, "we must play this game right. if you just go through it like this you might not get him.. this is chess. we have to play the perfect opening, middle and finish to secure you the ever talked about law. understand?"
staring back at her, you fervently nodded. almost too enamored with her to talk.
"thank you Perona, thanks for always caring and listening.. you mean a lot."
"yes yes... now we must devise a plan... to get you to bag law before graduation!"
